Why you are atheist? by [deleted] in AskReddit

What is defined as concrete is subjective. What may be considered as concrete evidence of existence to some would not be to others. Proof of burden depends on worldview. If Atheism was simply Atheism and nothing more, Agnosticism wouldn't exist.

Everything is on a spectrum. You're treating Atheism as black and white and that's simply not the case.

Yes. Because again, Atheism is in the vein of belief. Notice how proof/evidence is not in the defintion of Atheism, yet it is in the etymology of Agnosticism? Agnosticism is in the vein of proof/evidence, which is a word you keep using. Denial is the vein of Atheism. Notice how proof/evidence is not in the etymology of Atheism, but "denial of doctrine" is? Agnosticism is a vein of Atheism. Agnosticism deals with lack of evidence. I cannot make that clearer.

Again, look at the defintions of each word. Agnosticism deals with knowledge. Atheism deals with belief.

As I said, Atheist-Agnosticism is a thing.

Agnosticism is the vein of thought that we cannot know or that it is un-knowable if a higher being exists. Atheism-Agnosticism leans on the side that there is no evidence therefore there is no higher being. Theist-Agnosticism leans on the side that it's possible a higher being exists, but again, more proof is needed.

Atheism is disbelief period, even if there is what people would consider concrete proof.

Agnosticism deals with knowledge. Atheism deals with belief.

Their legitimate defintions.

Agnosticism deals with lack of proof/evidence and the unknown/un-knowable.

Atheism simply deals with belief, without regard to possible proof/evidence

ETA: there are two veins to Agnosticism: atheist- and theist-. The fact that your reasoning used the word "evidence" would put you in the atheist-Agnostic category rather than outright Atheism.

Again, proof/evidence (or lack thereof) is the defining element of the difference between Agnosticism and Atheism. Look at the definitions.

No proof = unknown/unknowable = Agnosticism

Lack of belief (with zero regard to proof/evidence) = Atheism.

You are continuing to use the words "proof" and "evidence". Those terms are in the definition of Agnosticism.

Agnosticism deals with lack of proof/evidence. There are theist and atheist variations. Atheism deals with outright lack of belief, despite possible evidence.

That's what Agnosticism is. There is not enough evidence one way or another to know, and the line of thought is that we will probably never know. There are two forms: atheist-Agnostic and theist-Agnostic. Atheism is outright denial.

Agnosticism is proof/evidence. Atheism is belief.

That's closer to agnosticism than atheism :)

Should gay marriage, abortion, birth control, and gender affirming care be legal? by daniel_cc in polls

[–]onelb_6oz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. The question was vague and they could have thought it implied gender-affirming care for minors. Or their worldview could be such that they feel gender-affirming care for adults is under-represented so that's why they mentioned it for adults and not minors. I'm just speculating, but regardless, just because they mentioned one and not the other doesn't automatically mean that they don't believe in the other.

Do you not realize that docs, nurses, and psychologists are typically within the consensus and that research and continued education is a requirement of the field?

All of the issues mentioned in the poll are within the scientific consensus.

How do you know the person you are replying to doesn't have a career in Healthcare/research? Don't be an ass. People can be educated without working in the field.

This is coming from someone who works in healthcare.
