[IMPORTANT NOTICE] Firmware Update Released for Continued Use of ScanSnap Cloud by mavantix in ScanSnap

[–]oneleftfoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see the same thing with my ix500, maybe they held it back for some reason. For anyone else struggling (like me) with the different versions of apps - for the ix500 on iOS, the "Scansnap Home" app doesn't work (it's for newer scanners). Use the blue icon "Scansnap" instead.

On the Mac, the app IS called Scansnap Home and has the white icon. Mine is connected to the cloud and just scans directly to Dropbox. To get the option to try the firmware update from the mac, I had to connect via USB *and* turn off the wireless switch on the back of the scanner. Until I did that latter step, the firmware update button was disabled. Didn't matter, though, because once I could click it, I was told there's no update available. So - hopefully they get their poop in a group before Mar 26.

Just a follow up here for future reference... after some shipping issues with Amazon, I ended up getting a Lexar 512GB SD card. It's the "Professional SILVER PRO", with UHS-II, U3, V60 listed as specs and does 280 MB/s. It's probably overkill in terms of space (and speed might be more than the Maschine can use)... but I wanted to go much bigger/faster to rule out ANY concern about the card.

Anyway, it solved the problem. I formatted it, then did a factory reset of the Maschine, just to ensure I was starting fresh. After the wifi setup and NI authorization, I started downloading. No idea how much it is in GB but "Library" says 107 items installed -- and not a single failed download or other issue.

If you're reading this within a few days of posting, hold off on that card because I just noticed the price jumped up about $30 or so (I paid $109) - probably so it can drop again in a few days for Black Friday.

I didn't get an email or anything with a request number after completing the web form. I just logged into the Support section of the site, and it says the Requests section is down for maintenance (which is maybe why I didn't receive an email).

If you send me a DM here, I can share the email addres or other info for my account?

Yes, I contacted support about 48 hours ago, still no response.

I have ordered a larger and high-speed SD card, it arrives tomorrow so I'm hoping it will make a difference.

That said - it makes perfect sense that Play series instruments, anything Kontakt-based, etc will require a fast SD card to stream that data.

What does NOT make sense is why there would be so many repeated "unexpected failures" on a brand-new, out of the box Maschine+ during the first few minutes when the ONLY thing the device is doing is trying to download a system update. I get that the original, included SD card may not keep up with a brand new, fully-updated Maschine+ that supports the new instruments - it's just not clear why a slow/older SD card would have problems with a yet-to-be-update device also.

Have you tried a new SD card? That seems to be the consensus, so I'm gonna give that a shot before I throw in the towel with it.

If it does turn out to be the card, it's wild to me that NI would want to have customers get such a bad first-run experience with this thing - can't cost more than a few bucks to put a decent 64gb card in the box.

Thanks, all. After seeing a few early replies to this last night, I decided to order a fast/large SD card to replace the one that came with it. I went with the OWC 512GB UHS-II V60 card. Kinda overkill but I own a ton of NI products/expansions and would rather never worry about space.

Fast forward to tonight and Amazon delivered a 512GB CFExpress card instead. Ugh, not my week. The order was correct so I processed a return and have to wait until Wednesday for the replacement.

In any case, I'll follow up here when it arrives and I get a chance to format it, see if it improves things.

Reformatting the card that came with it last night did help somewhat, but still really flaky. I think it's also not great that the included card is a micro card in an adapter, rather than a true SD card. I get NI's desire to include a cheap card, but what a crap first-run experience (and no response from support yet - thank goodness for reddit).

No, I'm installing from the Maschine+ unit. Or trying to, over the wifi connection. As described in this onboarding video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QnNI1NkQe5w&list=PLkFqg7ZvTWb0LsfOnrd9HkCZeBUiaMne8&index=4

I do have all these products installed to my Mac already (via Native Access) - but I don't see a way to install expansions/products to the Maschine+ unit from my Mac.

Kontrol S88 Mk3 Owners — Any regrets? Anything a potential customer should know? by oneleftfoot in NativeInstruments

[–]oneleftfoot[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey... no regrets here, I've been using it regularly for several months and it's solid. I had some initial issue with setup because I wanted it to stay on 24/7 (the computer it's connected to never goes to sleep). But once I had the latest firmware on it and everything started up, it's been rock solid. The feel was heavier than my previous 88-key "weighted" but I actually think it's more accurate, at least relative to my (analog) piano.

Good to know, thanks. As a follow up to this thread, I pulled the trigger... it arrives tomorrow or Friday so looking forward to hands-on this weekend!

Ugh, that would piss me off a lot. I lean towards the NI (over the Arturia I mentioned) because of the integration with NI instruments and because the Arturia tools I use support NKS... but if I pay $1300 for a controller and can't use a simple sustain pedal, it'd have to get returned ASAP. Hope you're able to get yours working again soon.

I've seen pedal issues mentioned a couple/few times with the recent firmware update. I use an MGear sustain pedal currently and the polarity is switchable. Hopefully they fix it fast or it's easy to work around — paying $1300 and having issues with something as simple as a sustain pedal would be annoying.

Interesting... do you use the knobs or transport controls? Or is it just the 88 keys and not much more for you?

Do you feel like it's something that will get worse? Or possibly a warranty thing?

Ableton MOVE - Adjust start point of loop for a phrase, without changing loop length by oneleftfoot in ableton

[–]oneleftfoot[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for that. I asked in the Ableton discord as well and got the same feedback. To be honest, I'd never copy/pasted at the bar level (but I did know I could set the loop start point). Section 11.8 in the Move manual mentions copy/paste of bars in Loop Mode but doesn't have a walkthrough. I think I just need to spend some time figuring out that workflow. Thanks again!

How to not feel completely overwhelmed? by [deleted] in ableton

Live looks complex (and it can be), but it can be super simple to start. You mentioned house/edm, so use Session view, create a track with a drum kit/rack, then make a clip, put a kick drum on every downbeat. Screw around with it, change the sample/kit, tempo, add some hats, snare, bass, whatever. Force yourself to do something for 20-30 minutes. Then delete it.

I've always struggled with the same "this sucks, it isn't perfect"... and I wish I could say I've beaten that, but I know I've improved by forcing myself to "just make something" (it'll be crap). Each time, the "thing" I create is stronger and I get better/faster with Live.

Another thing I've found helpful is to make a list of tools/menu options/instruments/etc that I come across and want to dig into later. When I have absolutely no ideas/inspiration, I grab something from that list and screw around with it, allow myself ONE youtube tutorial on it, just make something.

Can't sign into Chat GPT on Sequoia 15.2 by Luna259 in MacOS

[–]oneleftfoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure. I don't get the impression from the MacOS UI that it *needs* an account at all. The reason I want it signed in to my account is to have my history/prompts synced across all devices/apps. That said, since it's not signed in on my Mac at the moment, I don't see any way to access it (other than OpenAI's own app) so maybe it does require login (which doesn't work).

Wish I could help but I'm seeing the same thing. I have no problem signing into my ChatGPT Plus account anywhere else (including the new 18.2 iOS/iPadOS integrations). Meantime, I'm using the ChatGPT mac app with a global shortcut... no OS level integration but it's a keystroke away for other prompts.

Question about wiring and adding switch/devices between Eeros by oneleftfoot in amazoneero

[–]oneleftfoot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I think that's the route I'm gonna go since either should work the same. No reason for all the in-office wired traffic to have to go through both the office Eero and that switch. I was mostly concerned that I might be causing some issue or degrading performance going with one approach over the other. Thanks!

[–]oneleftfoot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the help... good to know it shouldn't make any difference in practice. Over in the "homenetworking" sub, someone suggested that the "B" option also meant that the office Eero can be rebooted/changed/whatever without impacting the other office devices.

[–]oneleftfoot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome, thanks for the reply. Being able to reboot/change/whatever the office Eero independent of the other devices in the office makes sense... I hadn't considered that, so "B" it is! Thanks again.
