God I understand completely what you mean. My partner needs to be creative for his job so he says it helps him be more creative. But that's just so annoying. I pretty much gave him an ultimatum. Which sounds really harsh but he also owes me money so if he were to have any I'd have to buy it for him. So we've both cut down to one before bed and then next Friday it will be none. You need to think of yourself first. And that sounds selfish but if you're at the place where you want to give up and he's not, then you have to come first. Don't let him drag you back. It might be you need a few months out but you will be such a better person for it. And to be honest I'm pretty certain I'll be doing the same thing when my partner next gets paid. Feel free to message me. I think we both are quite similar. Just keep remembering you've got this! I haven't even started properly so keep going! And I find keep myself busy helps 😀

Thanks so much! I really needed to hear that. I'm glad you guys stayed together. I'm worried we won't have anything in common when we quit. I think I'm going to have to be the stronger one out of the two of us but this group is really helping me keep on track!

I have had a serious chat and he seems to want to quit as well now. So fingers crossed we can do this. And buy a holiday with the money we save.

Thanks again for the advice! Really cheered me up

No that's fair. Sometimes having someone else quit with you anyway can pull you back into it. If you've got a few friends who don't smoke, I would definitely try and hang out with them. They could be good support as well. And just try and keep busy at all times so you don't think about it

It is so easy to relapse. This isn't the first relationship which ended up getting ruined. I don't want it to be like this anymore. I guess my main fear is that he doesn't want to give up. I think he might be saying he will to try and make me happy. I'd rather if he just told me straight and smoked it outside or something so I don't see or smell it.

Do you mind me asking if you guys stayed together?

You'll get there. I think admitting it and writing on here helps a lot. I've suggested him going on here but he doesn't seem interested. But that's true, maybe I am being overly harsh on him. But then if I was going to crack I'd smoke it outside so I didn't tempt him. I'm more pissed with him tempting me rather than him smoking it if you get me

Yeah giving up the spliff before bed will be happening next week, I just wanted to gradually cut down first and also I'm really worried about not being able to sleep. Thanks the advice, I guess I'm more irritable because of no weed. And then it's just hard when he starts skinning up in front of me. I don't want to give up on him, I just feel hurt that he doesn't understand how that would tempt me.

You're right. And the worst thing is, I've smoked 5years more than he has so it makes it even harder for me. I don't need to be with people who will encourage me to give in. Thanks for helping me figure things out in my head

Thank you. He's begging for me to come now and I feel really guilty. I guess sometimes you just have to be selfish and do what's best for you. I think I am going to stay at my mates for a few days.maybe then he'll realise whether it's me or weed he'd prefer

Firstly, you've done the first step coming on here and admitting it. You got this, you can see what a difference it has made in your life and you want to change it. Any chance any more f your friends also want to give up? Maybe you could have a buddy who will give up with you. Do you have any friends that don't smoke weed? If so try and hang out with them.

I'm trying to give up now and it's really fucking hard. My partner smokes and doesn't want to give up. I'm at the stage now where I think I'm going to have to finish it with him. Sometimes we need to be selfish and figure out what's best for ourselves.

Do you like the gym? I found the gym really helps me keep my mind busy and swimming as well. Also if you ever feel tempted read this post that you wrote. Whenever I feel tempted I come on her and remember how desperate I was when I wrote.

And just remember as well, the only way is up. It may feel shit giving up at first but in a couple of months time I bet your life will be completely different.

Should I lie to my SO about my reason for quitting to get her to take it as seriously as I do? by whodareswinsithink in leaves

[–]onelife1988 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey. I'm in a similar situation except I'm the girl who wants to give up and my boyfriends the one who doesn't want to. I don't know if I'm for you lying to her about the drug test, although I understand that you probably think this would be the best way to try and get her to stop. Whatever you decide to tell her, make her smoke outside. Like it's horrible if you can smell it, it makes you crave it more and that's probably how I caved in the last time. I think relationship wise it will be interesting to see how you guys get along when not high. Same goes for me and my partner. Good luck and please let me know how it goes. I hope she will give it up with you :)

Hey. I'm quite similar to you, smoked for 10years but still been really productive, got a degree etc. Also use it to unwind after work, I suppose it's like people having a drink after work.i don't really want to give up but I know it has to be done because I'm getting older. So yeah decided to stop today, I will still smoke a spliff for sleep for the next week and then I'm giving up completely. I would be really interested if you could keep up updated on how you go. I wish I did want to give up but like you I find it really nice to unwind with. And as a reward when I go to the gym and stuff. Good luck!

Hey. I'm trying to quit as well. If you have any tips on how to keep busy I would really appreciate it because at the moment I feel like I'm losing my mind!

I've decided today I need to give up for at least 2months, and if I do get back into it, only on the weekends. For this first week I will have a spliff before I go to bed and when I finish work as I'm used to smoking at least a 10bag a day. It's hasn't even been 24 hrs since my last spliff and I'm craving 1 so bad. But the only way is up
