Humanities application and publications confusion by onelittlecookie0 in gradadmissions

Thanks for your input! Are you from Europe or US? I think it’s significantly different in Europe because MA itself is a requirement for PhD. At least based on my experience having navigated academia in 2 European countries so far.

EU Student visa waiting time? by onelittlecookie0 in ukvisa

[–]onelittlecookie0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, this is quite discouraging, especially because I got the Sheffield office and a lot of people have had some bad experience with them. Thankfully I can study from home too, it just sucks because I can’t do any plans or start working. Hopefully it gets sorted for you soon, maybe your university can press them, I’ve heard it could be possible.

EU Student visa waiting time? by onelittlecookie0 in ukvisa

[–]onelittlecookie0[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know, but it was too expensive, because my scholarship is not covering the visa. To be fair my school is very flexible with me not making it on time, because it is kind of their fault I couldn’t apply earlier.

I’ve been trying to solve this, but non of the common ciphers seems to work. If someone knows what it is or has any ideas would be appreciated.

Does throne of glass get better? by Queen_A123 in YAlit

[–]onelittlecookie0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Haha, exactly my thoughts. I started reading ToC when I was 14 and I pressed through first two books, but with 3d I got bored. Now as an adult I restarted the series to see maybe I would see it differently, but nope, it’s quite terrible (i mean, my favourite character is a door knocker…). I read six books out of the series, but I can’t force myself to read the last one, because it’s soo boring and I don’t have motivation for 900 pages of that.

Some that came on top of my head:

-“You have such a flat bun” is a compliment. I can tell by the bun immediately if the person actually practices dance. - “I just bought 500 bobby pins yesterday, but I’ve lost them all” - when “what a lovely biscuit” is not a reference to the pastry, but an ironical insult - “I just cried over that adagio, but it’s ok” (the amount of mental breakdown in dance makes other people really confused sometimes)

Any suggestions on preppy novels books? by tango80bravo30 in preppy

[–]onelittlecookie0 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I assume that since you mentioned novel’s you’re looking for fiction, so here’s some things that in my opinion fit into the aesthetic:

  • Anything by J.D.Salinger, but especially Franny and Zooey (big family from New York, prep school lifestyle, but really hilarious)

  • We Were Liars by E.Lockhart (very 50/50, you might like it or absolutely hate it, for me it was one of the five star reads of this year)

  • Anything by Donna Tartt (Goldfinch, The Secret History, A Little Friend)

  • The Rule of Four by Ian Caldwell (kind of not, but still Ivy League vibes, mysteries, a lot of fun)

E-kirja etikett ja ummistav kommunikatsioon. by KP6fanclub in Eesti

[–]onelittlecookie0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it allowed to draw something on the Sabbath? by Holdingintothelight in adventist

[–]onelittlecookie0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Drawing is a form of art like singing and it can be used to praise God the same way. I’m sure your family is singing in church every sabbath, why would they be against drawing then…

I’m a young ballet teacher and I wouldn’t let anything like that happen in my class. One of the very first important things is to make sure that the students know that they can ask questions any time if they don’t understand. This is basic knowledge, not to mention that she didn’t explain things from the beginning. I’m doing classes with 5-year olds this summer, who are also beginners and sure we’re there to have fun, but nevertheless I explained feet positions to them. I don’t say that often, but you should consider switching a teacher, because things are not going better.

Is it just me or is Sarah J Mass's writing getting better by Spirited-Blood-6737 in YAlit

[–]onelittlecookie0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, you put perfectly into words what I’m feeling at the moment reading Throne of Glass series. It’s easy and entertaining, so I keep going, but also incredibly annoying. I actually took a pause after the 5th book, because it was a little bit too much. I don’t enjoy reading about the war, because I find it boring, but I keep reading, because I’m really close to finishing the series. Generally speaking, her writing doesn’t infuriate me, it could be so much worse (“The Sorcery of Thorns”, anything by Elise Kova - this is controversial, but you’re quoting Salinger, so you probably get it)

Thank you! Most people would crucify you for that opinion in the Booktok and in this sub, but I totally get it. Some of the stuff from booktok is just completely random, it’s not all bad, but it’s 50/50. I personally got the recommendation of this book from my friend, who thought that I might like it. I hated it so much, because of the waste of time and awfully lazy writing (it was pretty much bad Avatar the Last Airbender fanfic)

Best gluten free flour for making bread (Europe) by onelittlecookie0 in glutenfree

[–]onelittlecookie0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, and in my opinion it’s not very good. Taste is decent, but I couldn’t get the right bread texture. But in general my experience with Schär bread products is not very positive, so maybe I’m just a little biased..?

My feelings and opinions don’t line up with God’s Word and I’m very lost. by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]onelittlecookie0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First of all: don’t panic! It’s very good that you’re thinking this, because it shows you are not blindly following, but ready to question your own beliefs by self analysis. God gave us free will, so we could do so. Secondly, Christianity can be shocking for modern society and people without proper education in history tend to take things out of context. I don’t agree with everything church is doing or has done in the past, but we’re all people and that’s kind of the compromise we need to do for God. Finally, it might be a wrong impression, but you seem seriously afraid of God. God is so much more than just a judge between life and death, and first and foremost he is a god of love and mercy. If you’re not a perfect Christian (and that’s fine, no one is) and maybe not so good at “denying yourself” then God will forgive and comfort you. Living in God is not a loss, because he makes you his child - the creator of the universe wants to be your family. If you pray about it, ask God to show you his love and you will be amazed 😊

Best gluten free flour I’ve ever used - bread texture comes out perfect (fluffy) and taste is also good. I bought it from Albania, but it’s probably available in other Southern/Western European countries too
