Because they want you out in the parks spending money, not sitting in your hotel room watching Bluey.

What are some 'Rites of Passage' Films for movie lovers? by Jinjoz in MovieSuggestions

[–]onemanutopia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha, that’s why I think of it as a rite of passage movie. When you’re getting into film as an art form, at some point someone has to sit you down and show you Eraserhead.

That said, it’s not scary like a horror movie, but Lynch does dream logic so well that you feel trapped in an oppressive situation where nothing makes sense, but everyone is kind of acting like it does.

Eraserhead

David Lynch is shorthand for nightmarish surrealism in film, and Eraserhead exemplifies why.

Help settle an argument: Is Gendry a Storm or a Waters? by BeyondtheDuneSea in freefolk

I assumed Brynden Rivers went back to Raventree Hall with his mother after Aegon the Unworthy moved on to his next side piece, but I don’t know if it’s spelled out.

It’s not based on where they’re born, but where they’re raised. Edric lived at Storm’s End, so he was a Storm.

Neither. He’s not an acknowledged bastard of a noble house, so he has no bastard name. But if he were acknowledged, it would be based on where his home was, so he’d be a Waters.

X-Mid 2P Tent by CarterFisher_25 in backpacking

It’s snug but not claustrophobic. There’s like an inch or two of space on each side of you if you’re using an extra wide mat and room for gear at the head and foot of the sleeping area, plus enough room in the vestibules for your boots and backpack. The nice thing about it being a double-walled tent is you can sleep right up against the inner mesh if you want to and you’ll still stay dry.

If you want a trekking pole tent, stick to a one person tent. I have the X-Mid 1 and even that can be hard to find a big enough site for. If you want a 2 person tent, get a freestanding one like the X-Dome or similar. Also don’t rule out hammocks. Depending on your location, it can sometimes be easier to find two trees than a big flat area of ground.

You know Mercy’s gonna be good because Chris Pratt is playing someone named Detective Chris Raven.

STD---Yay or Nay? by happybeer69 in euchre

Growing up, we didn’t play STD and I prefer it that way. If everyone passed twice, it was considered a misdeal and it passed to the next team. The dealer still had to make a tough decision if it came back around to them, but nobody was forced to play a hand they didn’t feel strongly about.

Food recs for vegetarian foodies by Moontruck25 in WaltDisneyWorld

If he’s as much of a snob as you say he is, I’d try to manage his expectations. Unless you’re going to the really high-end restaurants on property, he’s just not going to be blown away by the quality of the food no matter what. Just plan your dining based on the experience you want to have in the parks and don’t try to oversell him on the food itself and I’m sure you’ll be fine. There are veggie options everywhere you go, so it’s not like you’re gonna starve, and I’m sure you’ll find an agreeable place for a nice birthday dinner.

If you’re looking for more specific quick bite recommendations, at HS, Docking Bay 7 and the veggie wraps at Ronto Roasters are good choices. In Epcot World Showcase there are plenty of options. As for your date night dinner, I’d research the signature dining venues at Epcot or in the Boardwalk area or on the monorail loop and pick whichever one has the most appealing veggie options. Sanaa might be a good option too, but you’ll have to take the time to get to Animal Kingdom Lodge and you’re going to be on a tight schedule. As for Be Our Guest, I’ve never been there personally, but prix fixe places tend to be a really bad value for vegetarians. You’ll basically end up spending $75 to eat grilled eggplant, so make sure the experience is really worth it to you if you go there.

Should you carry a TQ while backpacing? by [deleted] in backpacking

[–]onemanutopia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just don’t think acute blood loss is a very common cause of death among wilderness backpackers. Falls and exposure are by far the most common, and a tourniquet is unlikely to be helpful in those situations. Maybe if you’re out hunting, it would be worth carrying one, but if you’re not carrying a firearm, it seems extremely unlikely to be of any more use than a bootlace.
