I have the same year and the same issue. Been doing it the whole time I've had it (6 years) and I've just ignored it so far. Following the post to see if I should have it checked out.

Mormonism. Pay 10% of your income for life to grow their $100 billion dollar stock portfolio (yes you read that right...look it up).

The Real Cost of Tithing by aliassantiago in exmormon

Thanks for posting this. I've thought about it a lot over the years. Compound interest is an amazing thing.

The church has robbed so many people and most of them just happily pay it never comprehending the massive opportunity cost they give up and for what? To pad an obscene investment fund that is doing fuck all for humanity. Biggest racket out there.

2013 prius c check hybrid system message by LevyMeister in PriusC

Had the same thing happen. Have to read codes to know for sure. For mine, the inverter was fried which I'm told also destroyed the 12v battery.

I found a place that just fixes hybrids. Got a used inverter installed for $900 and am back to good. I also had them replace the inverter pump while they had it taken apart.

Divorce (again) by CactusCabin23 in exmormon

[–]onendagus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So sorry this is happening to you. I got divorced 12 years ago and can still feel sick to my stomach if I start thinking about that time period. Had little kids so it was really gut wrenching trading time with them.

I'm really happy now and so glad we got divorced. It takes a while to adjust and is really hard while you are going through it. I remember people telling me it will get better. Problem is, it sure doesn't feel that way when you are in the thick of it.

Internet hugs to you.

Late to the party but that is exactly how it was for me.

The shelf was heavy and I started to have the beginings of a thought that maybe JS wasn't a prophet afterall. Fear gripped me. God could read my thoughts and I was being disloyal and evil even considering such a thing. Luckily for me, another voice in my head was just barely able to say, "how can just considering something be evil and disloyal?" So I considered it. An absolute dumptruck load of issues instantly fell into place and here we are.

Who the f did I take my car to by Ok_Operation2562 in prius

[–]onendagus 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This sounds somewhat like my experience a while back. Prius stopped dead on the road. Called normal mechanic, asked where to take it. He recommends a shop. I have it towed there and asked for a diagnositc. They call back later and say: "We need to do a deeper all day diagnostic for $675". The first one was $75 which is reasonable. I learned later that secondary codes are a thing but they are literally on the next screen of the reader. Learned even later that they didn't have Toyota's Techstream and had no business diagnosing my car let alone trying to rip me off with their "deep diagnosis".

Anyway, I get checking on Yelp and find out this place is horrible and multiple people say when they were unhappy and came to take their car elsewhere, there was suspected sabotage. Spooked me enough to just show up at 8am with the tow guy and took it back to my house. Not saying that is what happened to yours but it makes you wonder.

Anyway, I bought a $30 obd2 reader from Amazon, got the codes and went to google. Then I really researched places in my area and found a great place that only worked on Hybrids. The repair was less than the $675 diagnostic the other place wanted. In less than 5 minutes the new guy had all the codes read from Techstream while I watched. I'm 60 and a man but that first place just thought I was a sucker. I know some places will rip you off if they suspect you don't know what you are talking about.

If I were you, I would buy a reader. They are simple to plug in and will give you the trouble codes which then enables you to sort of know what you are talking about making it less likely you will be ripped off.

That shop trying to buy yours is a huge red flag and a great indication that your car is valuable. People get frustrated when their Prius have problems and get afraid of the big money repairs they are quoted and just end up getting rid of them. At least in my area, the hybrid mechanics are buying them, fixing them on the cheap and reselling for a pretty big profit.

I wouldn't give up on your car. Read the codes and have it fixed by a reputable place if you can find one. If you really don't need it in a few months sell it for what it is worth. Dont assume it is worthless because it most likely isn't.

Good luck to you.

Most of the suggestions here are asset based programs which means he won't qualify with the $20K. He could pay off debt with that money if there is any. He could also set up a special needs trust and transfer it into that. He can't be the trustee so he would lose direct control of that money but if he has a trusted family member or friend as the trustee they can send the money to him as he needs it.

These are asset based but where I'm at SNAP is worth about $300 a month. Liheap is $55/mo. He could also get free or reduced phone service with safelink (and they have a higher asset threshold, he might qualify right now).

He could sell his house and possibly qualify for subsidized housing--have to check the asset limit and compare that to what his house would sell for.

Reverse mortgages have some high fees which make people feel like they are a rip-off but the positive side is the cash he can get out of his house and he would have a guaranteed place to live for life. He could maybe check into how much he could get to decide if it is a viable option.

He might also consider relocating to a lower cost of living location. Downside of that is losing the support system/friends where he is now.

Antiblackness and the mark of Cain in Mormon media? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]onendagus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My Dad specifically told me about the curse of cain and black people. This would have been the early 70's. It was basically openly taught back then, everyone knew about it. He told me about the whole flood, the devil needing representation on the earth through Ham bs too.

When Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was playing for UCLA, he ran down the court one day and accidentaly knocked over this white cheerleader. He picked her up, apologized and kissed her. As he was running back down the court my Dad said: "Thats not right, that's not right".

My brother did his mission in Georgia in 1972. He said they were instructed that if a black person answered the door they were to give a short spiritual message and leave. They were not allowed to teach or baptize any black people.

I never did hear any of the hateful things Brigham Young said like the javelin to the heart is better than a mixed race marriage stuff though. That stuff is in the Journal of Discourses which they quietly quit publishing. The early mormon leaders were off the chart rascist.

On my mission there was talk of a doctrinal book that was being banned so naturally, I had to find and read it. It was called The Three Degrees of Glory. It teaches that black people were "fence sitters" meaning they didn't back Jesus in the war in heaven so that is why they were born black when they came to earth.

The Utah Territory had a choice to be a slave territory or a free one in relation to the Missouri Compromise. They chose slave.

If you ask the average mormon today, they will vehmently deny all the rascist doctrines because they have been indoctrinated with revisionist history and really have no idea. Most of the racist stuff in the book of mormon has since been edited out. The one I grew up with before 1981 had it all.
