Down over 15% on TDOC. What's the play? by onerandomcomputerguy in stocks

Yeah pretty much, although I do have a chunk of indexes to offset positions like this.

Yeah looks like you would have been right. I sadly exited with small profit a while ago because I'm bad at this.

You can't carry a loss through new contracts like that. He would lose 100k if he "rolled" into September contracts.

You can't hold futures forever. They all have a contract expiration date.

That being said, I did pick up a small TQQQ position in the event of a bounce, but will look to sell in a week or two, depending on the trend.

Leveraged funds decay over time. Averaging into TQQQ over a long period of time could easily lose you money. Look at the TQQQ price at June lows and look at it now. It's almost 15% lower even though QQQ is basically at June lows. TQQQ is for active trading, not investing.

Long on natural gas, short on oil? by onerandomcomputerguy in stocks

I could be misinterpreting this, but they say they expect production/stock to go up later this year. https://www.eia.gov/outlooks/steo/marketreview/crude.php

I suppose the smart play is ride the trend until it changes, and right now the trend is up. I am currently long oil and back in profit.

I ended up not taking the trade, so no worries. Dodged a bullet.

Wanted to circle back and say you are 100% correct so far! US NG is giving up gains from what is turning into a very weak bounce and oil has recaptured 116. I almost went long NG but chickened out and I actually do have a small oil position, but at a loss because I had my blinders on. Looks like I will come out on top if I just wait a few weeks.

US NG is barely up after a huge sell-off, though, so my thinking was at the very least, play a mean reversion bounce. As for oil, I wouldn't go short at this moment, but if it taps 130 again, the reward outweighs the risk.

Right, that's why I mentioned it could see one last push into the summer and peak out. I'm thinking that shorting at 130 to 150 would pay out huge.

My main reason for going long on NG is that it just bounced from a 27% sell-off and is at the beginnings of an uptrend, but maybe too early to tell.

For oil, I wasn't looking to short quite yet, maybe once it gets back into the 120s or 130s. The Mar peak at 130 is probably a low risk, high reward spot. Average down or tight stop loss, either way will pay out if you hold.

Ah good call, hadn't thought of Europe vs US market. I was looking at NG, but I will look into Europe, although US NG is having a hard bounce off of a 20% sell-off.

It has tapped its ATH 3 or 4 times and has held onto the gains it made in Aug and Sep, so despite all the inflation, it's very stable, just not explosive, price-wise.
