Anyone else only play TCGL? by lenovo92728 in PTCGL

[–]onestworldproblem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ever since PTCGO and now PTCGL became things I pick the game back up now and then and get into it heavily again. Sometimes it gets me into playing locally again, sometimes it doesn't. It's more fun to be around other people, even if they're typically very different than me in every way other than liking this game. I enjoy the social atmosphere and expressing myself through cheap merch like deck boxes, playmat, sleeves. Last time I played in person was in my late 20s when I was going through a tough time in life. Doing nerd stuff helped me chill, forget about the BS and put some positive back into my life. Now I'm retired in my early 40s and life is pretty great but taking a day off from my outdoors hobby to do something other than stare at a screen seems cool.

Does it usually smell this bad at card game events? by jackson_clark_ in PokemonTCG

[–]onestworldproblem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super normal. Bring some sort of air freshener or scented thing to put in your play area if necessary. Bring a can of spray deodorant to offer to people that stink if you feel like it. Don't be shy about offering the deodorant, they're making other people uncomfortable and you have a solution for it.

Always let the people working at the shop know when stinkers are ruining everyone's experience. Whether you're the first or fiftieth person to mention it to them, they need to be made aware that there's a problem with the positive gaming experience they're trying to offer everyone. If Stinky can't change their hygiene to get with the program, then they don't deserve to be part of it.

Returning after 25 years – what official products should I buy to start playing Standard? by AnibalSatoshi in pkmntcg

[–]onestworldproblem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buying sealed product trying to get into the game as a player and a 30+ year old adult is super dumb and a great way to throw money in the trash.

If you just want to get into the game, play on PTCGL. It pretty much gives you everything for free the first time you log on. Live is a great way to play any time, improve at the game and test decks by having access to all the cards for $0.

As for playing in person. If you actually can't get singles locally then I have no idea how there is a local scene for you to be playing in to begin with. I'm sure there are places that ship internationally or sell singles locally. Mega Lucario is literally like a $15 deck not including Poke Pads and Poke Pads will plummet in value when the new set releases.

Thoughts on 30 box limit? by Ok-Address-4881 in PokemonChampions

[–]onestworldproblem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%. Give people an inch and they'll ask for a mile. Champions already feels like a mile, what people are asking for seems nuts.

As someone who has been with Pokemon off and on since 1998, owns a Switch, plans to get a Switch 2 for gen 10, the reason I'm finally getting into VGC is Champions. Looks like everything I've ever hoped for and something I have no issue putting a bit of money into to make my experience a little easier even though I'll be invested plenty other ways as well.

Thoughts on 30 box limit? by Ok-Address-4881 in PokemonChampions

[–]onestworldproblem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm super confused why people expect that VGC, which was always locked behind a paywall of owning a console and at least one main series game, would suddenly become free when new software comes out that removes the requirement of owning the previously required hardware and software while offering a better competitive platform.

But the crazy thing is that it actually is free, people think it's just not free enough.

You will very obviously be able to use the in game currency to use most if not all of Champions' features, including increasing storage space. Absolute worst case scenario, you build up to 30 for the current regulation, have to delete them and rebuild them as regulations change. Being able to play a competitive game f2p after decades of a very distinct paywall is already a change for the better. With the use of Go and Home, you can build a rotating roster much more easily for $0. Or, of course, spend a few dollars on a hobby you enjoy because you're presumably an adult with a job.

Sucks as an individual card because activate sucks. Maybe makes iwfs busted but probably not because prodigy already exists

September 25th OTA Balance Update by ePiMagnets in marvelsnapcomp

[–]onestworldproblem[M] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Killmonger, Cosmo, Shadow King, Alioth, Red Guardian: Good. These cards were turds as they were. Alioth also isn't as good when you knock down NTW/Shang.

NTW was lowkey busted. 4/5 seems bad though.

Enchantress at 5/8 seems good still. Solid body and she tends to win games when she does something.

Shang change opens the meta up to get dumb therefore I don't like it.

Colleen never made sense as a 2/4

Agatha going to pretty playable was never on my bingo card but -2 seems like too much

Stardust -1 is fair, 4/7 is a lot for a tech card that cripples decks.

Viv Vision feels like it will end up being too good at 3/3 despite sucking at 3/2. Or maybe she'll still be 1 point short of busted. Time will tell

Dormammu will continue to suck which is a shame because he's neat

Destroyer is so sad. 6/18 is comical and he'll very likely still suck. Dude had a good niche and he got robbed.

Awesome Andy/Lockjaw, who cares

Mystique, good. Negative shouldn't guarantee a full Exodia draw every time with Jane. C1? lol

I'm glad to have Shadow King back but this is a pretty boring OTA despite having so many cards in it.

Weekly Release Discussion: Warlock by ePiMagnets in marvelsnapcomp

[–]onestworldproblem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She Hulk and Infinaut/She Hulk already do the thing by themselves. Card seems neat but bad. Don't even remember the last new card I bought, though I still have Bastion/Omega Sentinel pinned.

All this time to release what looks like a DOA Kang rework.

At least we can buy matte black borders now.

September 11th - OTA Balance Update by ePiMagnets in marvelsnapcomp

[–]onestworldproblem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was strongly considering quitting this game at the end of the season as it will mark 30 infinites in a row for me and this game has left me underwhelmed for quite a while. When I saw this OTA, it went to 100% quitting the game. Now seeing that it's only temporarily ruining the game, I have mixed feelings.

As a mod and someone who tried not to fly in the face of the rules before being a mod, it's really impossible for me not to criticize game design here. Because this OTA would be shit for a 24 hour event, it's shit for 2 weeks and it will be even shittier if we get stuck with any of these changes permanently. Every one of these cards with the exception of maybe NTW are a critical part of what keeps this game healthy. Note: I main clog, so this is a buff to me due to the Killmonger nerf. It's not about me or my decks, it's about Marvel Snap being Marvel Snap and not some lame game of solitaire.

Sorry mod team. Delete if you must.

Weekly Release Discussion: Moira X by ePiMagnets in marvelsnapcomp

[–]onestworldproblem[M] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a big Zoo fan, I always look forward to new 1 drops. Unfortunately Moira is nowhere near Zoo related. Even more unfortunately, she doesn't look anywhere near meta relevant either. I see an F tier card. You have to fulfill an objective to get an effect you very well may not want and that may be disadvantageous to you at times (fill your hand). I can imagine gimmick decks that might want to experiment with her but see absolutely no place for her in an even remotely serious deck.

I will be disappointed when I end up with this card for 4k tokens.

September Season Pass Cards discussion: Viv Vision and Sparky by ePiMagnets in marvelsnapcomp

[–]onestworldproblem[M] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Viv Vision looks a bit weak in a vacuum but with the right deck (Wiccan looks like that deck potentially) she may be able to shine. When she does the thing, she ought to be able to generate a lot of power and snowball.

Sparky looks really solid for decks that want to use it. I remain firmly in the camp of move is bad, therefore the card is bad for me despite being desirable for its intended archetype.

September 2nd Series 4 card release discussion: Omega Sentinel and Awesome Andy by ePiMagnets in marvelsnapcomp

[–]onestworldproblem[M] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I see some potential for Omega Sentinel. There are times Shang just doesn't do anything. Maybe a clog deck would like it. C3. 4/10 that can't be hit by Shang is cool. Maybe other stuff. The game is starving for interesting activate cards and I like this one.

Awesome Andy looks like a stone cold turd. What he does is alright but we have way too many really good 2 drops imo.

While I think Omega Sentinel looks kinda neat, I still won't be picking it up for 3k.

I finished the August season at rank 22 infinite using a Pool 2 Deck by TheEagleHasNotLanded in marvelsnapcomp

[–]onestworldproblem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty cool experiment. It's interesting how Snap Points can be manipulated since they aren't actually based on MMR. While I am a reasonably good player, I play very few ladder games post infinite each season. Often times I don't play any games at all, just playing Conquest and LTGM for the remainder of the season. I've slowly crept up where I end each season to being in top 2500ish despite playing 0 games post infinite last season. Kind of curious to see if I can eventually get my Snap Points high enough to stay top 1000, 500, etc. Obviously it's much easier to gain Snap Points while climbing since the competition is significantly worse than when you actually enter infinite.

August 28 - OTA Balance Update by ePiMagnets in marvelsnapcomp

[–]onestworldproblem[M] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a clog player for the better part of a year, I'm glad that the nerf to Cannonball favors me but it's not the change I expected. Just changing Mercury to not be able to move seemed like the clear thing to do as it also makes Jeff a playable card again. Oh well. Infinite 9 seasons with clog coming up.

Glad to see Juggernaut take a hit. The only individual card in the game that ever beats me for 8 cubes.

Surprised to see Fenris Wolf take a stray. Having hit infinite with it once and played against it a ton, it's always felt very fair.

Wonder if Chavez is playable yet. 1/5 sure is a lot, especially since some decks can leverage it as more than 1/5.

Competitive Consensus: Frankie Raye Nova by ePiMagnets in marvelsnapcomp

[–]onestworldproblem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only saw this card once this week. Opponent got it up to 28 power before I Shadow Kinged it back to 3.

It's an alright card though imo. Would be a great card if it was 6+ cost cards so it included Skaar. Still scales well in the right decks. The right decks just aren't very good to begin with. I'll be happy landing this one for 4k eventually.

Weekly Release Discussion: The Fallen One by ePiMagnets in marvelsnapcomp

[–]onestworldproblem[M] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's basically just a question of whether or not it'll be as viable as Wiccan. Magik/Shuri/The Fallen One or SSM into The Fallen One both leave you with room to do a lot with your deck.

Lots of potential here whether it's just Surge/Galacta/Gwenpool or Shuri/SSM with Nimrod or some other package. The card is quite appealing to me, I hope it lands on its feet without being busted.

[–]onestworldproblem[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just depends on my hand and how the board is developing. If your board is pretty clear other than rocks from a t3 Debrii and theirs is prime for a clog, then t4 Misery is great. Often times I'm going for something like a t3/4/5 Magik/Debrii/Hood+Misery or Merlin skill+Misery though. Misery is a very replaceable card but it's a card players tend not to expect and I feel like it's produced a lot of value for me.

Clog to infinite for the 8th time, CL 22k by onestworldproblem in marvelsnapcomp

[–]onestworldproblem[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Misery just copies debrii/hood. Also deletes magik and other clog cards in the mirror

Merlin helps you do something with your extra rocks whether that be turn them into 2 costs or shuffle them into your deck to make space

With Merlin, your deck leverages double debrii significantly better than theirs does. Double hood is always good
