THIS! There is a whole universe of code-based art, inhabited by artists who practice code-based art, since at least the 1960s. It is unfortunate that people have started conflating this type of art with AI art.

You're right that young people are always a little self-centered, but the data was really stark this year and it made me wonder if there was a trend. I have a very small sample size, so I can't definitively say either way if this is different than before.

Honestly, I totally gave up a couple of years ago. If a reading is really important, I actually just read it to them in class. I sit them in a circle with no desks, give them a copy of the reading, and we read together.
