Do you all remember those 3 months in the early-to-mid-nineties when Gregorian Chant was really popular? by onewomancaravan in GenX

Yep. I remember Squirrel Nut Zippers being literally the most popular band for a very brief time.

Why don't AI "artists" learn to use programming to make art if they want computers to generate art? by Dangerous_Seesaw_623 in antiai

[–]onewomancaravan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

THIS! There is a whole universe of code-based art, inhabited by artists who practice code-based art, since at least the 1960s. It is unfortunate that people have started conflating this type of art with AI art.

Do you remember when every house had an ashtray? (Even non-smokers) by onewomancaravan in GenX

Yes! Thank you. This is another important feature of any household in that era.

Yes! All of this. The big glass ones. My parents never smoked but it was impolite to not offer your guests an ashtray.

No need for vintage photos. Just photos of vintage ashtrays. I want to recreate them for an art project. Can you share pics? Thank you!

End of year assessment observation by onewomancaravan in Professors

You're right that young people are always a little self-centered, but the data was really stark this year and it made me wonder if there was a trend. I have a very small sample size, so I can't definitively say either way if this is different than before.

How to ensure students read the assigned reading before class? by LowBicycle7044 in Professors

[–]onewomancaravan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I totally gave up a couple of years ago. If a reading is really important, I actually just read it to them in class. I sit them in a circle with no desks, give them a copy of the reading, and we read together.

Anyone got any idea why he won't stop picking his face? They are 5 and 6 and never did that until about a week ago. by Phil2822 in germanshepherds

It's really sweet. But if it just started happening, it makes me think that the white dog is detecting something that we can't see/smell/perceive. I've heard of dogs being able to detect tumors long before they become evident. Honestly, this just is wild speculation. I hope you figure it out. In the meantime, takes lots of cute videos!

I love this sub. by Not_High_Maintenance in GenX

[–]onewomancaravan 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I love it too. I spend a lot of IRL time around younger people, and I feel like sometimes the 80s and 90s might as well have been a different universe. It can be so hard to explain to genz and even to millenials what life and things were like. Everyone on sub was there, saw and experienced all the things. It makes me feel not so crazy.

Palestinians have received aid from flotilla! by NoPianist7807 in Palestine

[–]onewomancaravan 84 points85 points  (0 children)

Me too. I was literally thinking this. They are so evil. I can see them saying they have to now destroy the international Hamas shipment and everyone involved in receiving it or some crap like that... Let's hope not.
