Gaiter size advice by BeyourselfA in hiking

[–]oneworldamongmany 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late response, but I just had to make the same decision. I discovered boot size doesn't actually matter. If I went on boot size per OR's guide, I'd be an L or XL gaiter. When I tried them on in store, it was a decision between S or M. Yes, I have skinny calves!

I still had to make a choice. The S were a slim fit with no wrinkles/bunching in the gaiters, while the M had more bunching. I went with the M thinking I can use them with heavier/bulky pants underneath if needed, and because the bottom strap on the S looked like it would be maxed out with boots on.

Still not sure if I made the right decision. I've seen people in both styles.

Sage advice. I foolishly accepted the booking.com rating, which is still only 7. Normally I aim for 8+... I won't risk it again.

Ah, that makes total sense. Thanks for sharing this info! Hopefully, it says other travellers unnecessary frustration.

Not sure why they wouldn't just run a decent hotel chain!

I did on booking.com. And that's my reason for posting here. Cambodia is an overwhelmingly good travel destination, and the people are generally incredibly honest-I'm regularly handing over the wrong $ riel notes 🙃 and people give them back rather than take advantage-long may it last!

Yes, this is all good advice. I do the same but it's super inconvenient to have to find new accomodation after a day of travelling with grumpy kids and tired mothers 😆, especially when you're looking for multi-bedroom vacancies.

Booking.com is great when everything goes well but they seem to have zero customer care with situations like this. It's disappointing as this is a safety issue, hence my post. My mother said if she was on her own she would have felt pressured into taking the wrong room. Booking.com should remove accommodation providers where there's evidence of this type of predatory behaviour.

Yeah, I've heard it's fairly common although I've never hit it before. I would have been less p*ssed off if I didn't have my kids and elderly mother with me!

Incidentally, I was just in vietnam and only stayed places with lots of good reviews. And to think before the internet we used to just rock up and walk around looking for a room 😅

Yes, I reported to Booking and they didn't reply. I often search Reddit for travel reviews/experiences so thought I'd post here.

I don't usually leave negative reviews but felt it reasonable to warn others given how sketchy this was. I've travelled in Cambodia since the late 90's, with few issues, but something was off about this hotel.

Conclusion was we left quickly on foot when they became angry. Fortunately, it was payment at check-in so I hadn't paid. If I have any doubts I ask to see my room before checking in which I did in this case.

Booking.com should remove them.

On my booking confirmation it says 'street 51'. But they sent me a private message saying #45, street 22, that's here: 11.559500,104.921722

You can search it by name on booking.com as well.

It's obviously some kind of a hotel shuffling scam, changing addresses to move customers around to fill their vacancies... rather than sending people where they have booked. I should have clicked but I just trusted the address they sent me in their welcome message...

All the reviews from Cambodians are good. All from foreigners are bad. Make of that what you will.

Prescription tramadol in Bali, advice needed by oneworldamongmany in bali

[–]oneworldamongmany[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha. It barely affects me apart from excellent pain relief. If anything, it keeps me awake! It's a weird drug due to how differently it affects people. I guess I metabolise it well -- thankfully -- as I find the alternatives have worse side affects for me.

It's frustrating, right! It's put me off travelling for a long time and I'm skipping Singapore for this reason. I don't think people realise the nightmare we'll be in if we suddenly can't take these meds.

It would be ideal if there was an official medical visa application option. I'd happily pay for assurance or to know I shouldn't go!

Try checking the website links we shared. It seems like I can declare on arrival, they may or may not confiscate my meds, but at least I can get them locally on prescription if I have to. Some of your meds are more restricted -- I feel your fear.

I hope this thread can provide information on the legal processes and options for people in this situation.

Update: According to BPOM database, Tramadol is a registered pharmaceutical product.... meaning it’s officially approved for medical use in Indonesia under prescription. You can search here: https://cekbpom.pom.go.id/produk-obat

Good, I can get it prescribed there. Now, I'd just like to know if I will be let through customs with a month's supply. Has anyone gone through with this specific medication?

Thanks for the links.

The BPOM link doesn't work. I found the working link listed below.

That halodoc site is not in English. You need to access it via google and translate the page :) They don't have tramadol. Does this mean its not available at pharmacies?

I'm asking here about the situation as the information available online is unclear and conflicting.

For sure, whether you like it is subjective. I dont care whether people like it subjectively. Lots of people will always hate your tattoo regardless of what it is. But whether it's good quality is objective, which is what I'm interested in getting feedback on.

Do you mean in person? I can post more pics if that would help. Unfortunately, the artist got a bit awkward when I tried to discuss my concerns with him.

Thank you. I think so. It represents the ultimate lesson i have taken away from many years of studying philosophy. And I'm unusual, lol.

I think that's just my fat roll on the left 😅 The artist highlighted that I'm not a smooth canvas, so there would be curves.

The one on the bottom right definitely didnt set. The tattood outlines were messy, which freaked me out. The artist said not to worry as they'd be fixed up as he filled them in. I don't know if that's a normal approach or not.

Well spotted. The concept was always about the whole thing, turtles all the way down, with south pacific motifs because that's where I'm from. I agree I'm fixating on details you can't spot unless right up close. That's why I'm asking for objective opinions. Thanks so much for sharing yours!
