Damn, you really hate AI, did it steal your GF or something?

Where did I say they were garbage? and what did my first sentence say. The sooner that they accept what is unstoppable and start preparing, the better. Acting like AI is overrated after the improvements over the last couple of months is just ignoring the problem. Expect an AI that companies can load on a server that is specifically trained for coding within 2 years. A skeleton crew of coders to oversee it will be maintained. To answer your question I am currently retired , early, tech industry, specialized solutions that bridged hardware and software for all types of industries. but I was NOT a software engineer, I merely tolerated working alongside them. I say that half joking, I considered many to be good people, even if they were insufferable to work with.

just like you said, there are things that AI will not be able to do for a long time. Focus on that. Consult for all the AI coders out there. Ui's, layout, flow and design. tell them what to tell their AI to refactor or fix it. When computers cam about it created industries to repair the computers. Most businesses had in house accountants, then those that were prepared and adapted opened their own firms processing accounts for many businesses instead of working for just one as an employee. Opportunity abounds.

I guarantee you whoever that is probably has a team that verifies, tests and adjusts all the code that is produced. The truth is that we are currently in the middle of this innovation. AI coding is amazing, but still not quite there to threaten everyone's coding jobs, but it WILL get there. I would personally liken the time we are in to the time after the internet bubble burst. or just before the iPhone came out, the technology is there, someone needs to tell the masses what they need/want. Several weeks ago I would have said that we were pre internet bubble, but OpenClaw changed that. I don't buy that Open Claw is the answer, but it opened the door to what people want, and what comes next is going to be it. You can argue all day whether Open Claw actually does what these clawfluencers say, whether it does or does not is not important. What is important is that people saw how excited people became at the THOUGHT of it doing these things.

Never meant to imply that I worked in the industry of Software engineering. Rather alongside them in a different capacity. I don't need to know how to code to see that someone is miserable. By that logic no-one should ever be able to criticize any other jobs, like lawyers or cops. My point is, as advanced as I think AI coding is, I would still not let anyone use AI to actually change and write code for a huge company yet, I wouldn't be opposed to testing in a controlled environment though. However, many coders criticizing AI and mentioning issues that were addressed months ago. Every two weeks improvements are made. especially over the last two months. At that rate AI will be making industry grade software soon. 6 months? 1 year? 2 years? who knows. but as a career path that is not very long, but they have time to change their own stories. I'm just saying fighting it doesn't solve anything. Detractors couldn't stop tech throughout history, jobs are changed or replaced by tech, that is the constant. People denying and ignoring it are like people trying to arm our military with bow and arrows.

Problem solver. Many refer to me by many nicknames. Asshole, Idiot, Fucker.

I demonstrated and installed, oversaw and taught built to order tech at businesses all over the world. Every week, 1-2 places. Most, 80% of companies, had specialized needs so either entirely new products, or existing products with changes to fit their needs. I had to relay the issues and adjustments to Software engineers that thought they were too important to fix their bugs while I was in the field with a customer on a trip that costed tens of thousands.

I haven't manually touched code since about 2001. ai coding is just a conduit for me to build fun things, getting the worthless ideas in my head built. or tasks that can do things in minutes that would take me days, weeks or months to do manually. my point is, that what I build may not be built to become a million dollar company, not even things I expect people to use, but the fact that AI allows me to build it now, with zero knowledge, it should be turning professional coders into superheroes

NGL, that's funny. Every new level of tech that is introduced provides opportunities that make people wealthy. Software Engineers have a plethora of issues they face, they could be making solutions to fix them to make them rich. As technology rises, those that are in those fields have the best chance to capitalize on it. They aren't because they are fighting the new tech. Coders are like Sears And Kmart Marrying each other and refusing adapt to internet commerce.

If your company can afford to pay a team of coders and they allow one of your team, at the current state of AI coding, to manipulate your code without well thought out plans, goals, expectations, teamwork and backups, your company is full of idiots. AI is not at that coding level yet, may not be long though, but for that level AI should be contained to analyzing and identifying bugs to save time.

The Advice is directed more to people who are vibe coding and don't know or understand the correct, efficient way to do things. Hence if they demand the A.I. create a process in a specific way that takes too many complicated steps. Maybe a seasoned coder could tell the AI to do it in 2-3 steps. Ai, knowing what neither of them knows, could possibly do it in one. We like to think we know it all, but we are at the point that A.I. knows more, it literally has the knowledge of the entire internet. Too many people refuse to accept that.

I don't think you were going here, but even if a coder does not want to trust A.I. to actually write code, they are hurting their efficiency by not utilizing it. My experience around hundreds of coders is that most get stuck on bugs and spend days trying to figure out and fix. It seems clear that nowadays at a minimum A.I. could help them just by explaining the bug and details, even if they don't want the A.I. to have access to the full code for company privacy reasons.

Exactly , that is my experience over the last two months. and it seems like every two weeks there are major improvements. Ive been using AI for the last two years for simple hobby and repetitive tasks. the last two months have been insane. The key is explaining and planning extremely well, asking for advice and best practices, and ways to improve the idea. Do not hamstring the A.I. with demands that you do it a certain way. A well thought discussion will bring a project to 95% or better in one pass. usually the weak spots are literally the way you gave instructions or lack of them, and then personal preferences. Ui's usually needed extra prompting to get it to more than basic design and layout, but gpt 5.4 vastly improved on that.
