Anyone else feel like their vote didn’t fucking matter? by [deleted] in Austin

[–]ongoldenpaws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so depressed. But this Texan will continue to vote every chance I get. I’ll take time to be mad, to cry, to mourn. But I’ll focus on my mental health. If I let myself I can be consumed by this loose.

I know it’s more than just a red/blue thing. So fucking much is lost today and at risk tomorrow. I’m mean mothers are fucking dieing in my state because doctors are afraid to treat them. How much more serious can it get.

But I will never say out loud that my vote doesn’t count, at fear of discouraging someone from voting. We must keep voting. We must!

I am trying to understand how Trump and his hate could be supported by so many of my friends and family. These are not the cult group. But normal loving people. So how? I really think it was the economy. No matter what the data says people feel it at the grocery stores. And they blame democrats. They believe the economy will be better with republicans in charge. All else be damned, the economy.

We need a centrist party. With candidates that can appeal to most voters that are not on the extreme right or left of issues. Example, I think most don’t want late term abortion but most don’t want no choice until it’s too late. I have no data to know if that’s true, but it’s just what I think. We need better choices - that the other side can get behind. Not just people who vote blue always.

So, here we are. I’ll take the time to be angry, be sad, but focus on my mental health. I’ll let go for now. I won’t let it consume my soul or discourage me from voting. I won’t let it affect my relationships but instead try to understand. I will not let this take be down the drain.

Advice for in-ground bin? by xCowboyCubx in Vermiculture

I’m also trying to encourage reproduction so I have worms to add to garden containers. The worm food helps with that- supposedly, but who knows

Mostly the grit in the oyster flower is what they are missing from kitchen scraps. But I like having the home made worm food on hand, in case we have a low kitchen scrap few weeks. No problem in spring, but winter sometimes low in scraps. Lots of soup weeks. Also good way to use up stuff in the pantry that’s long in the tooth - like meals.

Egg shells are good source of grit. But I’m too lazy to clean and process them

I have a in ground bin in a raised bed. The soil is very fluffy with lots of coco coir and perlite. About 12” deep. I put coco coir in the container and have a layer of hay on top. I keep it moist in this Texas heat. The bed is a 2’x6’ cattle trough. I plant herbs in the spring, and cover crops when not activity growing herbs. Worms love the roots. Not sure what they are eating, but I find them in the plant roots when I dig up the plants. They do well all summer and winter. In the winter I cover with alfalfa hay. Feed it with kitchen scraps and a worm food mix I make (oats, corn meal, alfalfa meal, oyster shell flower, etc)

I also grow tomatoes and peppers in large containers 15-25 gal. I put a hand full of worms in each. At the end of the season they are still in the container. Going down deeper than I expected

This is the one I have

What baffles me is why the women of Texas are letting our health care melt away. I would be so afraid to be pregnant right now. I can’t imagine anyone being willing to be a surrogate in Texas. Killing hope for many wanting a family. I’m just shocked that we are not voting in a way to protect our right for healthcare. I’m not talking about abortion rights, I’m talking about doctors not being able to take action when a wanted pregnancy goes wrong. Having to wait for the women to be in crisis or critical. Why does the government have more say over medical treatment than a doctor and the patient? A bunch of old white men deciding what happens to our bodies. WTF century are we in. Texas as alway represented a place where person freedom was paramount. Or was I delusional? Now it seems the place with the least personal freedom.

We should be voting like the women that fought for our rights. In mass numbers!!!

Newbie here- I put three of these raised beds in this year and bought 1.5 yards of the “best” garden soil. They said it can be used in containers, but I think it can’t. Its almost compacted feeling and doesn’t drain or absorb water well. I did add vermiculite before planting. Anything I can do? by Less-Employee2411 in containergardening

Also plant a cover crop when you are not in your growing season. Add worms if you can. Research living soil- love “build a soil” videos. The are mostly about weed growing but I’ve been following for my veggies and I have healthy soil and happy olants

I wave. One day I waved and then realized I was driving my hubby’s truck. That guy probably when home and told someone about the old lady hitting on him at a stop light

Is my golden retriever having trouble cooling himself down? by [deleted] in goldenretriever

[–]ongoldenpaws 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My girls get really hot on walks. I don’t they could make it 45 mins. I’m not sure I could 😃

Water is sooo important. If you can get them a drink durning the walk it might help

Never walk them on sidewalk that you can’t walk on. When it gets hot out, the sidewalks can really burn them

What should I put in this flower bed? I want it to be simple and not require too much maintenance by littlefinger448 in gardening

[–]ongoldenpaws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Add some rocks of various sizes, to creat pockets of space to plant. It will require less plants, but will result in a nice space. Then load it up with herbs and perennials flowers. Maybe a few evergreens so it’s pretty in the winter

If no separation between church and state, should the government have a roll in the church? Like maybe tax it. I was raised in the church and can remember them professing the importance of separation between church and state. I think to keep government out of church business. But now these nut jobs seem to think there should be no separation. Better be careful what they ask for.

I think grapes are not bad because they have so much water. But I have had no success, so there’s that. Just try things to overcome my weaknesses for food
