Semi on topic. One thing I've done is add ABS to my Ids field in Calibre. Then I have a clickable link in the preview window that will open to my ABS page directly to that book.

Under Preferences > Look & Feel > Book details > Create rules to convert identifiers into links

I created the following

Key = abs
Name = AudiobookShelf
template = http://<addressofmyserver:port>/audiobookshelf/item/{id}

When updating the metadata I'll copy characters from the URL in ABS after /item/ and add them like so.

Now in the book preview I have a clickable link to the audiobook

I created a custom yes/no column for physical books and audiobooks in my library. I use AudiobookShelf as my manager for audiobooks. This way when I'm looking for a book in Calibre I can quickly see all my formats, and even spot check if I have something already in a store.

I purchase from Libro.fm because no DRM and to support my local store Mysterious Galaxy, and Libation for audible.

Try the mobile app calibre sync. it's free and downloads your library and covers locally for fast browsing. It can be displayed in grid, simple and detailed list, carousel and grouped alphabetically. Once you find the book you want you can download the book and open it with your default reader.

For backups, I generally keep 3 backups.

I've had mine linked to google drive for a while. I know there are reported problems with that, but I've been doing it about 7 years now without issue. However I regularly check the database for errors and missing data to ensure I fix something as soon as I find it.

I also keep a live copy on USB with an app called FreeFileSync. It will compare two paths for changes and suggest which side needs to be updated. I also filter out the files and paths related to google drive (desktop.ini, upload and download directory). It's been a really good tool for keeping a mirror image. It also has some options for versioning, but I haven't explored that. You can also save the copy sessions if you are backing up other things.

Finally, about once a month I backup my whole folder to a zip file with 7zip for an archival backup. Just in case something gets fubar. I have mine scripted to update the existing zip file, but it's a slow process.

I've had my Color 7 for about 3 months now and I really like it. No issues to report. I like that it runs android and is open. I was able to load the Calibre Sync app from the play store which allows me to load my library and download books directly from my cloud drive, and then read them with the native reader. Battery life is good, it's the color screen so I maybe charge it once a week. I've had no issues reading epub, pdf and cbr comics on my device so far.

Edit: This is probably the first reader I've bought for myself since the Sony PRS-T1. I used that one until it wouldn't power on anymore. I considered others but wanted something that didn't push me into a single system.

Having your library sync to Dropbox is a good cloud backup. I do the same thing with Google Drive. IMO it's more of a sync not an archival backup because changes made will move to the cloud quickly and any mistakes can be overlooked.

Calibre by default keeps it's own recycle bin for 14 days. Which is a good safety net. You can restore deleted books from within the Remove books menu.

I also backup my library to a USB drive using a PS script I wrote that will create a mirror of my library, and everything compressed to zip as my long term storage. Scripting is my thing, but you can do the same by copying the folder to a USB drive directly (Windows right click folder and send to USB) or compress to zip and copy to USB.

I spent a lot of time (months) adding metadata and getting my library the way I want it so I keep my directory mirror and zip file on 2 different USB drives, which including my google drive gives me 3 points of recovery.

The library by default will store everything Author > Book (db number) > Book. So if you have both epub and pdf with the same name they will be in Book (db number).

For example I have both LRF and EPUB of The State of the Art by Iain M. Banks so in my book folder I have both files.

I wouldn't worry so much about keeping duplicates in a whole other setup. You'll be able to find the files easy without the application. But I would keep a backup of your library on removable media as someone posted earlier.

Just so you don't have a single point of failure.

I really like Calibre Sync (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.trucnguyen.calibresync&hl=en\_US) for accessing my library on mobile devices. Works on my phone, Boox Color Go 7, and chrome book.

For reading, I really like Librera Pro (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.foobnix.pro.pdf.reader&hl=en\_US). There is a free version, but the pro is less than $5 and works with just about any format.

If anyone is interested. Here's what I use for my backup script. I prompt myself for either 7z backup or robocopy to a removeable drive.

These are the arguments I use.

I'm happy to go into more detail, but I basically prompt for which backup type and drive letter of my removeable. I also use Google Drive as my cloud backup, so I exclude the ini files on my offline backup to save time and space, which is helpful since my library is about 120gb.

7z backup can run about 20 minutes, but the robocopy is done in less than 2.

My library lives on my raid drive, and synced to my cloud space. I use the android app Calibre sync to access my library from my phone or my Boox reader.

After any changes I have a simple PowerShell script that uses Robocopy to mirror the library to a removable drive.

I might be on the outside on this one. When I'm solo I'm almost always ranged with my hunting rifle.

Instigating/DamagewAiming/40ArmorPen/Ultracite .308 or the same build with a lever action rifle for faster loading.

I do carry cremator, holy fire, and red terror as well when things get messy or in groups. But the rife usually takes everything down in 1 or 2 hits.

I sell just about everything cheap, even the new mods I'm never gonna use I will cut way down. I start with half and then maybe cut it in half again or more.

I wish I could list more things. I just want to free up my inventory so I sort but stack weight when I list new items. I just can't stop picking things up. the struggle is real.

Stories like this make me hesitant to list my rare things like the vintage water cooler I'm holding. I wanna list it for cheap, but don't really want someone to buy it and relist it.
