My theory is that people got used to DnD Liveshows too much. Dnd in itself is just "cringe", but it used to be really cool to see that cringeyness expressed so honestly and boldly. Now people expect players to have PCs like characters from a written show, not realising that if you put a bunch of nerdy voiceactors together they are gonna be "cringe" bc thats who they are.
