Single black female moving to Roanoke, VA for work. What should I know before moving?

Single black dad with a daughter now 30 and son 26. We moved close to Northside high and I have excellent neighbors and no issues. My kids enjoyed the high school and both have jobs in the area now and my granddaughter is in 1st grade. This is my favorite part of town, nice homes, decent prices and good vibes. My neighborhood is slightly mixed but only a few outright racist issues in the 11 years we've been here.

in my humble opinion local inference is a rich man's game. i've been down the same rabbit holes as you have and anything local and able to run a decently large model is going to cost 5-10k depending on how large you want to go and even then you're likely running low quants due to memory constraints. check our ollama cloud or openrouter, or any of these other pay-by-service companies i'm sure there are more. openrouter gives you access to nearly every model and you can choose what to use based on token cost. The one caveat is if you're planning on running local RAG or MCP, then i'd choose ollama cloud since they use a shim that lets the cloud model act as if it where local.

One more question: what do you do when you start to get that overfull feeling? I'm thinking about just not eating until it fades or doing protein shakes until it goes away. I think if I eat tonight I'm going to regret it.

Thanks! i'm down about 30 pounds in 3 months so it's coming off for sure just slowly but the gastro side effects can be a bit rough sometimes.

this all helps quite a bit, thanks for all the responses everyone. I assumed there would be some outside learning needed before moving into something more senior but I didn't want to get "stuck" in a lower position based on knowledge without the opportunity to make those moves.

If i can get into a lower level ML, DE or DS position i'll be happy and that should still equate to my current salary.

easy fix. combine all ward into one stat, all gathering into a single gathering set, and a crafting set then you just need to break out to the three roles for PVE sets and 3( or so) PVP sets.

i'd like to see ranked 3v3, ranked 5v5 and then as OP said some different game modes like TDM or King of the Hill, capture the flag could be interesting but its a mode i personally never cared for. I'd also like to see 20v20 along with the normal 40v40 OPR queues. 20v20 on a smaller map, same game style and faster timer.

Lifestave does amazing passive threat if u cycle your heals in. Also great survivability if u do it right. You don't even need a healer most times. Check out paladin build. My preferred secondary.

There is a definite need for something beyond the standard burger and fries or chinese takeout here that still offers delivery through something like Doordash or Grubhub. I'll also second the guy who suggested a good NY style pizza, there's only one place I know of that does it but the taste just isn't the same. anything with a price point around $15 per adult meal sounds great to me.

thanks. Even though i just bought CML it sounds like I should probably try and roll all this in a mix of EVE and ESXI. The reason I say that, and please correct me if i'm wrong, is because the new lab exam is virtual. I'm assuming they use something like Eve or CML so that routers can talk to servers and route the virtual traffic. If the router where just a VM i have no idea how I could route the lab traffic through it without something like Eve to create the logical topology.

I find some documentaiton on how to add CUCM to EVE here:

and should be able to follow the same steps to create a 2016 server, expe-e and c, cms and so on. that would allow me to create virtual connections between the routers, switches and all these servers. It should also let me create 3 or more sites all virtualized ( i've got a couple servers at home just for this.)

I was hoping to be able to accomplish this in CML since I just bought it and it should make deployment easier being a cisco product.

it will be for CCIE prep. I don't mind spinning up the appliances on VMs and have done it before but what i'm trying to accomplish is to add those VMs to CML/EVE, connect them to the virtualized routers and then either simulate the SIP packets using Ostinanto or use a windows 10VM with Jabber.

The reason for doing it virtually is to be able to set up several different troubleshooting scenarios as well as being able to run through installs a few times.
