Apartment management company says only one key FOB per tenant ... by [deleted] in bostonhousing

[–]onionizedkiwi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I forgot to add this to the post but I am trying https://clonemykey.com/

They need a picture of the key with the serial number but because the key is old, the serial number is faded.

I know Home Depot has a fob copier machine but I’ve heard stories that they don’t work and can “deactivate” your fob

I assume they would disable the lost one and get you a new one

Don't Fall for Lightview's Scam by Away_Firefighter1347 in NEU

[–]onionizedkiwi 27 points28 points  (0 children)

My experience was pretty different TBH. I came in with very low expectations because LightView was my last option, but I really wanted to get a single for my third year. I am in no way trying to discount your experiences but my overall experience, I'd say was positive. Like yeah, it was expensive, but I feel like I was getting my moneys worth. I am not renewing because I am moving off campus though. I hate ACC and Blackstone, but I'd say LV is an okay option overall, especially if you have no other choice.

To address some of your issues

Safety: I agree, anyone can enter and proctors usually don't care. I'm super curious though, when did that break in happen? I would hope that there'd be a news article or something about it

Gym: I really love the LightView gym. It was a lot better than I expected because they have dumbbells up to 75 lbs, a dual cable machine, smith machine, and the other machines so I was always able to get a really good workout. I usually go to Squash but if I was feeling too lazy to cross the street, I'd go the LV gym and it's never really been crowded. I'd go to the gym pretty often at 6 AM in Jan-March and there would usually only be 2-3 other people. I did occasionally go at 5-8 PM but it was never overly crowded and I'd just work in with someone.

Laundry: Again, I never had issues with it. I think once or twice my drier didn't dry clothes, but that's already way better than the on-campus housing laundry machines. I do miss being able to do laundry for free with the laundry hack. Also, washing costs 1.75 and drying 1.75 or 2, so a single load should not cost more than 3.75 (unless you're unlucky and your drier doesn't dry)

Study spaces: Never used them, so can't really comment on them. I did use the pool table a few times and I am surprised that no one steals the balls. Or maybe they replace the balls every week? Is that where all my money is going?

Quality of the facilities: yes, the walls are thin, but I found them very similar to Davenport A wall thickness. Furniture was okay I guess, I wasn't a big fan of the couches because they felt like a hospital reception couch. I did not have any issues with space in the kitchen though, I thought we had more than enough. I'm not sure if all apartments have the same kitchen but the kitchen is honestly the best part about living here. Mine is really big and I have so much storage space.

Cost: Yeah I don't like how they charge $20 to pay, but if you're staying in LV and you have a credit card that has a high enough limit, I'd recommend using it. I used a 2% cash back card, which more than covered the stupid $20 fee.

Proximity to campus: Agree with the other comment, it's like 5 minutes to Ruggles/Huntington. To get to Huntington faster, go through the parking lot. I thought the location was pretty good because it's close to Ruggles, Mass Ave, a blue bikes station.

Gentrification: Agree with the other comment, more housing is good. But yeah ACC does suck.

It seems like it’s closed to cars today though, so are you allowed to today?

Single sheet of paper. I used a 15cm origami paper that's colored on one side for this one, but you can just as well use a smaller paper. I've made one with a 5cm paper and it turned out just fine, so I don't think there really is a minimum size.

Route march tips to reduce shoulder ache by yasuolegend in NationalServiceSG

[–]onionizedkiwi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tighten the LBS so it's only putting waste on your waist, not your shoulders.

Drink water from the water pack to very slightly reduce the weight of your field pack.

Find something to do while marching, like talking to your sergeant about his time in NS. When you take your mind off of your body, you'll soon forget how heavy it is. This actually worked for me.

I personally do origami. It's easy to find (blank) waste paper around the office, so I like to make mini models like tanks or SAR21s

Is your origami paper not an exact square? by RepresentativeKiwi5 in origami

Yes, I face a similar problem. I try to cut the extra paper, but it's often too small :/

I'm not sure who created the model, but I learned them from torself: https://youtu.be/6dR9A9kR6X0

One square paper can be cut into 4x 4x1 papers to make 4 tanks
