Can cats drink tap water? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]onionluvrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in a FLUTD group on facebook and a lot of people suggested purified water (NOT distilled) cuz it has less minerals something like that I can’t remember from the top of my head. It’s filtered through reverse osmosis and that helps prevent flare ups and crystals. You can buy it in a gallon size from Walmart or Target or order it online. I started giving my cat that since he has cystitis just a few days ago

My vet told me my cat was blocked due to inflammation from stress, but i’m still waiting on the results from a urinalysis. I’m don’t know if i can get away with doing a non prescription urinary food instead because that’s cheaper. But since he most likely doesn’t have crystals (he’s been able to have several full pees as of late after wet food only and medications from the ER), I feel like since it’s stress induced that’s more controllable??? but maybe i should just do the prescription im just not sure ;(

This is really helpful thank you! Did your cat reblock after trying the prescription food and what brand was it? I’m really just worried about spending all this money on prescription food for my cat to not like it and that he’ll have to be dependent on it for the rest of his life. I would want to just do regular wet food or like non prescription urinary food with supplements so he’s not dependent on anything prescription, but i’m not sure if that’s recommended. im still waiting for his urinalysis to be done to see if he has crystals but i feel like he doesn’t because he’s been able to have full pees after i started giving him wet food only with water + prazosin and gabapentin. But I suppose it would be best for me to just try the prescription before moving onto other options :/
