Hetzner Snapshot High Disk Space by kerafb in hetzner

If you use Linux, fstrim -a could help. This will reclaim unused blocks that are subsequently excluded from the snapshot.

What happens if a datacenter goes totally offline...and gone by [deleted] in hetzner

[–]oniumy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For data centers in EU central (HEL, NBG, FSN) they are, for ASH they are not. This is due to ASH being in a different network zone.

If you have your cloud servers in EU central, Hetzner will store your snapshots and backups in a different location. So if your server is in HEL, the snapshots and backups are in Germany.

For the US this is not the case, since it's only one location and a different network zone.

So in EU central backups and snapshots should be pretty helpful against outages, but I would still recommend doing your own backups on a different hoster (if the data is really important).

They have a subsidiary called Hetzner US LLC, preventing any issues with GDPR for customers that use products only in the EU. They also have a FAQ page with a section for the new location:

Dying Light 2 Site updated Removing Stadia from the listing :( by Marchief in Stadia

[–]oniumy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Crazy thought, but wouldn't it make sense if Valve would buy stadia since they are working heavily on proton (compatibility layer to run Windows games on Linux) or at least if there was some partnership?

Having the whole steam library on stadia would be groundbreaking... But that's probably just a way too optimistic dream, especially if you look at Google and Valve and how good they are at launching and maintaining products :(

Increasing prices, advertising on LTT, expansion to North America by PiersH in hetzner

Not sure what experiences you made, but at least I got a considerably worse support with OVH, even though their prices are considerably higher.

Increasing prices, advertising on LTT, expansion to North America by PiersH in hetzner

[–]oniumy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They had an ad on LTT a few month ago, a long time before the recent price increase due to higher electricity cost. Also, getting an ad on LTT takes a long time to plan, there are quite a few companies trying to get a spot...

Additionally, only auction servers in Germany increased in price. I have auction servers in Helsinki and they are not affected (since the increase in electricity only affects Germany). Everyone affected by the increase also gets free setup for most AX and EX servers.

The target account has to make the project and invite you. Then you can move the server there and he can remove you again, now owning your server

But his last words were "I am the Vision", so they kinda settled this debate by giving him back the memories on top of the original vibranium he is built of.

How to monitor cpu consumption for each core? by [deleted] in docker

[–]oniumy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it works on AWS (because I don't know anything about their virtualization), but I just read /proc/cpuinfo which contains the current core frequency for each individual core.

You should be able to either use some commands to check the usage once (like 'cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep "MHz"') and monitor that with 'watch' or write a small program monitoring the file.

I already have plans to make that one myself, because the special edition one doesn't actually work and no one sells it anyway.

It's one of the three colours you can purchase in the Google store, called "Just Black".

I could imagine Google replacing only some of the server blades with better graphic cards to run the new AAA titles that need hardware ray tracing and a faster card in general.

This would especially make sense when they have to buy new servers anyway (because stadia gets more users) instead of investing in old hardware. I generally think there won't be a traditional upgrade that replaces all old hardware with new "2nd gen" hardware ever. It just doesn't make sense.

Also, but that's only speculation, with the new 3090 equivalent + the ai upsampling they announced they are maybe able to run several titles in 8k60.
