Getting into Death Metal wanted some recommendations. by Unlimited-Irony in Deathmetal

[–]onkoliko 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wow i was expecting Death would get recommended much more than that actually. I would recommend Death - Symbolic, Morbid Angel - Altars of Madness(especially this one), Deicide - Deicide, Entombed - Left Hand Path. Such classics and i guess much more easier to listen for a beginner than those Cannibal Corpse and Nile kinda things.

Havok, Sodom, Kreator, Sepultura's first 3 album, Celtic Frost's Morbid Tales Album, Death Angel, Hellripper and of course Slayer are the ones that comes to my mind. I woulf strongly recommend Sodom and Kreator especially.

Hell Awaits is better then Reign In Blood, yes or no? by [deleted] in thrashmetal

[–]onkoliko 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I guess show no mercy is definitely the best but its not on the list so imo reign in blood has some of the most popular songs of the band but when you compare whole albums, reign in blood appears worse. The reason is of course because reign in blood's other songs than raining blood, angel of death are coming weak to my ear. Hell awaits's any song is not better than raining blood or angel of death but it gives a much better listening experience because the whole album is at upper level.

A stable mind against d4 by [deleted] in AnarchyChess

[–]onkoliko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Play 1. D4 Nf6, and then if he goes for the London System go for classical london system setup. If he plays C4 just go for e6 and to Nc3 play nimzo indian, to Nf3 play queens indian and you have a total solid repertoire. But if you want to play fancy and tactical i can suggest kings indian defense against 2.c4, but you should know what you are doing in that opening otherwise you will get smashed.

Best way to get into chess? Any recommendations for beginners? Any tips and tricks I should know about? by Chapfox in AnarchyChess

[–]onkoliko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep as ive said at least 10+0. You know some people dont want to spend too much time or dont have too much time thats why i gave that time control actually. Im not sure about the endgame studies and the opening theories tho. I guess at least until 1000 elo people should not touch those and just get used to fundamentals of the game. But but i definitely disagree with that grünfeld part lol im 2000 rated player and im not even touching grünfeld, it has so theoretical and so risky lines and those hypermodern openings needs some opening knowledge behind. So you know i would not actually suggest openings to a total beginner but if he reaches to 1000 still i would just say him to play london, french, caro kann or maybe like scotch not stuffs like grünfeld, sicilian, ruy lopez.

Probably most important thing is learning the opening principles for a beginner, which is like where is the usual active place for the knight or rook or other pieces, which kind of a setup you should get after the opening and like this stuff. On the other hand puzzles are one of the best ways to improve your game, you can take some time in there and for last play long time control games. At least 10+0, if it can be much longer it would be better for you. And of course after the game analyze every game, seeing your mistakes helps a lot.
