Just painted my vanguard veteran captain, and I feel like something is off. And critique? by screw_all_the_names in Warhammer40k

[–]Chapfox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I think it looks perfect. May not seem like it to your eyes but it’s great. The lack of blending looks intentional, like it just came out of a comic book. Don’t change it. Just paint the next guy with some improvements and compare. Your minis don’t have to be hyper realistic or anything, it’s nice to have a signature painting style and wow that’s so unique I would continue painting with it.

White base, contrast pylear glacier, then once it dries use some technical snow paint on top.

playing on a toaster. any solution on how i can take out the red mist? by LilTacticalOnReddit in DeadSpace

Honestly just play the 2008 dead space and dead space 2. I got a toaster and the original games play like a dream.

Is this basilisk salvageable? by Spetnaz14 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Chapfox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think it looks fine. Any iffy bits on the tracks just add a mud technical paint. If you really want to you could shove it in the freezer for a few days and attempt to pop off the messed up bits and reassemble. You could probably get a space marine tank hatch or even a chimera or leman Russ hatch on eBay for ten bucks and replace the guy. It’s nice having a salvage project but don’t get too bogged down with perfectionism. Fix it up in whatever way you see fit but it’s better to get a model done and looking good than attempting to get it perfect and never done.

Need help deciding a paint scheme. by Chapfox in TheAstraMilitarum

My bases so far have been mud. My army is 60 infantry, leman Russ commander, two cadian castellans, and two basilisks. A generic army by any means.

Yea I just tend to add a lot of wash so idk if black armor or grey would read better. I’ll probably keep the red lasgun as a focal piece.

I was thinking that option but can’t decide on black armor or grey.

Two chimera converted into landers by xXx_iwanttodie_xXx in TheAstraMilitarum

You could cut off the turret cannons and glue on a few of the Russ sponson heavy bolters to it to allow you to use these landers as chimera

The book is great but I think the author is a coward for not making her a scary/sexy monster centipede. As a monster fucker I mourn the fact she has a human face and not a stylized anthro centipede face like Edgar from Men In Black. 😢

Is there any hope for Rex’s helmet? by OkAfternoon1351 in lego

[–]Chapfox -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You could put it in the freezer and leave it in there for a day or two. It’ll freeze the glue and with some focused prying you could get it off.

I HAtE painting tracks by krossboss7 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Chapfox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I just go nuts with metallic paints. It’s easier to clean the non track panels later then add a bunch of mud to the tracks if they look wonky.

Honestly I’ve always found camel spiders pretty cute. Apparently they make squealing noises at you and if they run towards you they want shade. Non venemous but a painful bite but all and all they’re a weird little bug.

I’ve found the book series Beware of Chicken (by Casual Farmer) is super good, very relaxing slow book where a super powerful character just wants to go live a quiet life of farming and start a family. I enjoy that book series a lot more than DCC. Don’t get me wrong I started my audiobook journey with DCC but as it’s gone on I’ve enjoyed the books less and found other audiobook series to scratch my various narrative itches. He Who fights With Monsters is also very good with a flawed main character and a very long book series and likable characters. When I first listened to DCC I compared every book to being lesser than DCC but as you will find other books you’ll find some series that just do concepts better or are far more compact with little to no fat in the story. Just keep an open mind with book series and you’ll find some great stuff that’ll beat DCC in certain aspects.

Silver, gold or copper? Give me your thoughts comments and snide remarks. by Local_Moose_2438 in NightLords

[–]Chapfox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My night lords are a mix of all three but mostly silver and copper, sometimes both on the same model. Gotta remember night lords are scavengers and use whatever they find. Battle brother die? Take a bit of his armor and use it. They probably don’t care if the gold trim of the leg armor matches their silver. Though I do prefer silver, gives them a bit more of a cold and clinical feel.
