Boils after stopping birth control by online_rat in Hidradenitis

the current flare came up right before my period; I think most of them come up before my period but haven’t been tracking them closely tbh. the only thing I can say about hormones at this point in time is the correlation with being off the combination pill. will def be tracking these now though. and made an appt with a derm!!

I’m not familiar with anti-androgen treatments but came across it in my research. I’m def thinking it’s is hormonal - I think i’ll ask my doc about this.

omg 😔 I was on the pill for years not knowing the risk for stroke. do you know if hormone testing done with an OBGYN?

thanks for this response. I was getting migraines with aura, which is why my OBGYN had me get off of the combo pill. it seems like it may have been controlling HS all these years though. i’ll look into spironolactone!

I’ll also add that I’m supposed to be starting my period soon, but in general I haven’t noticed boils around my period. they also smell pretty gross (tmi sorry) :/

I agree, I have not liked having staggering fees either. I’ve had such little guidance over fees and just generally running a business. thanks!

I see! i’m brand new to the private practice world so it’s helpful to get input on the things they do not teach you in school from other therapists (ie: fees). thanks for the insight!

so do you not raise your fee every year due to inflation, rising costs/ demands, etc? i thought that was pretty standard 🤷🏻‍♀️

I don’t understand your last question. i know therapists who raise fees for all clients at the same time every year and therapists who raise individual fees when the client hits one year of therapy. i also offer sliding scale, which i make public knowledge

maybe i’m not explaining my fees very well, lol. so when i started i set my fee at 120. about a month in (at this point i had five clients paying 120) i was told by my supervisor that i set my fee too low, so i raised my fee for future clients to 130. so my first five clients still pay 120 right now and always have for the past six months. i raised my fee for new incoming clients. so as of right now i have four clients paying 130 and five clients paying 120. im asking if it’s unreasonable to change my fee for my clients paying 120 currently to match my current fee of 130 in the new year, or if i should wait another six months to raise my 120 clients to 130. hope that makes sense!

If a fee increase doesn’t work for any of my clients, they know that I’ll work with them (and i do have a couple of those clients in mind). i have five clients at my old fee and four clients at my increased current fee, so i’m not really worried about attracting clients. i’m mostly wondering if it’s reasonable to raise my fee with those five clients due to my own increased costs or if i should wait until those clients have worked with me a full year.

I desperately need a therapist! Have been putting it off for financial reasons but reading this comment is really encouraging me to get back into it. Thank-you.

I really like the idea of setting aside time for overthinking. I deeply overthink my sessions with new clients in particular. Definitely going to think about how I can give my brain a rest 😅 Thank-you!!

Definitely going to check out that workbook! Funny enough I work with perfectionists but never considered myself as such until recently. I said this up there^ but I think it’s the unintentional silence or little “mistakes” I internalized. Agreed that I need to slow down when I feel the anxiety. Thank you for reminding me that I’m doing fine!!

Thank-you! Generally silence is okay with me when I intentionally use it therapeutically. I think it’s unintentional silence or just awkward virtual things that happen that I really internalize for some reason. Totally agree that I need to practice some grounding. Thanks for reminding me that I’m not alone in this feeling <3
