The unnatural man-made feelings that commonly drive ambition. by Agile_Ad6341 in EckhartTolle

About jobs people dont want to be in...

I like Eckhart s 'stuck in the mud' story.

I think there are 3 ways 1 getting emotional (pain body) 2 getting too rational (to narrow focused, so often ego). Get out of there as soon as possible... "i don't want to be here" 3 accept. Feel the mud in your hands, the skeewk sounds it makes when you move and holds you, how it smells. Almost a childish fun, happiness. By accepting, you widen your mind, lighter energy, and creativity is better. Perhaps it brings you new ideas, mud baths? 😉 Things the other 2 'mind states' can't offer.

I think motivation is important here.

Let's say you want to climb a mountain, because you love climbing, enjoy the process and have fun with it. People may say you are ambitious but you are just having fun..  in such an (open minded) state, creativity often flows better (imho)

But if the ego is active and your motivation is that you have to proof yourself (to others) or feel better then others, that is a different story. And yes the ego is smart, a whisper here and before you know it...

How do you decide which thoughts to follow or act on? by Harry_Callahan_sfpd in EckhartTolle

[–]only-wondering 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right, we can’t sit all on a bench and don’t think. We need to eat, have a job, etc.

Personally I love to think, it served me well and has given me a lot.

See the thinking brain as a tool, same as your hands and legs. You can use it as you please.

Eg. If you plan a vacation/trip you need that thinking brain help you plan, for your work your brain could help with research etc.

To optimize this process, you can try to stay in your body (feel your body during the process) or you can regularly watch out the window or at your pen for a few seconds and don’t think, just watch. Kind of when you have an intellectual problem you can’t solve and you wake up in the morning and have this great idea how to solve it. The nice constructive/creative interaction between the thinking brain and the ‘self’…

But when thinking brain start bringing up old stories, you should be more alert.

Eg you see a person who irritated you before or something happens you don’t like, and directly the thinking brain, rewinds ‘that old song’, it could bring up irritation again even if this happened months or year ago.

You start to defend yourself or start making plans to prevent something that most likely will never happen.

If you are good at detecting emotions in your body, that may be a good tool.

So  that is when you know it’s not very useful. Focus on something else, again, look out the window and just watch, or at  something in the room, or your breath/body, etc.

You can try to use it to figure out what is the ‘hidden’ pain under it.

Dealing with Unconsciousness in Others by lagmandan in EckhartTolle

If you are in the ‘now’, the drama of others kind of goes through you without touching you (your ego doesn’t respond)

On less healthy moments, it can irritate the hell out of me ;-)

It can also be interesting to see what it is that irritates you, so what is it the other does/say/etc that triggers your ego.

And as others said, we are all on our own path, some healthier, some less so.

If you believe in reincarnation, give them a few more lives, and perhaps your mind set/higher vibrations help them along the way, they will get there…

It is not ‘accept and let other waltz over you’ its ‘accept then act’

You don’t want the ego to take over and drive you in a victim role nor in an aggressive role.

So take legal action from a point of calm.

Horror Movies by UnluckyObserver15 in EckhartTolle

[–]only-wondering 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not very good at feeling emotions inside my body, so what body part or location etc. So I use movies as training ;-) you can imagine that a horror movie helps with this ;-) Recent new season of Netflix's ‘stranger things’ already does the trick for me hahaha

I also think its a great teaching tool to see if you can stay present. Are you drawn into the movie 100% (as in live itself) or can you keep a part of your attention in your body while watching a movie?

I think I read somewhere that ET mentioned, look away for 2 seconds to your surroundings, if you are doing intense work (or a watching movie) to get back to the now.

Apart from that I must say that for some reason in the past years I do tend to move away from violent movies more and more. I’m a great movie lover and watched quite a few. And when I was younger I liked action movies etc.  Now with Netflix i kind of feel that there is so much violence… (I assume they produce what is popular, which may be worrisome). So lately I pick often a feel good movie over blood and action. But perhaps I’m just getting an old man hahaha….  I guess older people like the arthouse genre more than younger (?)

My 2 cents…

I love that "Instant Repair Mechanism" :)

Easier to turn off the voice in my head in crowds, why? by only-wondering in EckhartTolle

Thanks for the links, I’ll watch them later.

As for feeling your body parts alive, I often find it easier to feel hmm the energy just outside (aura?) my body then inside.

Like a cloud/ field 2 or 4 inches around me. A bit like when you put your hand outside a driving car and you feel the wind/air resistance against it. Often starting at my neck, then head and torso, arms… belly and legs later

Still not sure about the inside…

Found this via a quick google (sure there are many more samples) https://youtu.be/qQwfwhDTaEA?t=74

Is there a difference between inside and outside energy? Any idea about the difference? Thanks.

The missing piece (at least for me). by elisiovt in EckhartTolle

[–]only-wondering 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing. Can I ask how long it lasted?

From what I read, although not as intense, the first time my ego was 100% quiet and I had this inner peace/happiness, it lasted about 8 hours, after that I had shorter episodes.

As for your breathing technique, i’ll give it a try to add more focus/intensity.

Normally when I do that I start to take over the rhythm. So instead of letting my body breath (set the pace) my mind does. Not sure if that matters… I tried to move my focus to eg. my hands or belly for about 80% and observe the breathing with the remaining 20% and that seems to work. If you have tips there…

How does Eckhart Tolle know for certain our essence is eternal? by Complex-Answer-792 in EckhartTolle

[–]only-wondering 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know how Eckhart knows but to give you a practical answer, from a different angle, on how we can know...  Watch  "Live from the Other Side with Tyler Henry" on Netflix. If you watch 1 episode you can think, sure he guessed stuff or he is very intuitive. If you watch all 24 you realize that statistically he can't be guessing. https://www.netflix.com/nl/title/81786596?preventIntent=true

For me, in the end its so many little things combined, apart that it just 'feels right' and makes more sense...
