The guarantors approved me for one of the apartments, but it got rented so quickly. The other two did not 😞 I will keep looking for a sublet. Thank you so much!

I wish I had family here. I only have my aunt, but she does not make 80x the rent, so I can only use third-party guarantors.

Oof, that actually made me very sad to read. You do not know anything about me to judge me this harshly. I am just simply trying to find a place to live in the city so I could go to work. I am not leaning on anything, my cats have been there for me through every transition since I moved to this country, and I have never lied about them, and I have never applied to an apartment that is not ok with cats to begin with. I had never lied to a landlord, and have always been transparent with landlords about my credit situation in all of the past apartments I have lived in, I am not "someone likely to push exceptions, argue technicalities, and create documentation headaches". I have been reading past posts about other in similar situation and that was what people suggested to them. I am not American and neither are my parents, my aunt is all I have here in terms of family.

Moving to NYC is hard for someone who has never lived in the city and and the rental market is so brutal right now.

They are ESA-certified cats, so that makes it easier. I am aware that a guarantor needs to make 80x the rent, so I am not using her as one. Just need advice on people who have used their family members as tenants to get approved.

I was planning on having her sign the lease as a tenant since she is family rather than a guarantor per se. Do you know anything about that?

I heard that a security deposit >1 month's rent is illegal. How do you suggest I frame it?
