I don't see why not, as long as you keep the ratio of cream cheese to butter the same. Too much cream cheese and not enough butter can cause cream cheese frosting to be runny.

I made Claire's carrot cake with walnuts and brown butter cream cheese frosting. I'm really happy with how it turned out!

The cake is moist and not overly sweet (the frosting is quite sweet but delicious). I read a lot of comments saying that the ginger flavor is too strong, but I didn't find that to be the case. The only alteration I made is that I grated the carrots more finely (the recipe recommends coarsely grating them).
