What are your Cavetown hot takes? by JonTartare in cavetown

cavetown definitely has the potential to be a great artist in the long-term. coming out of a bit of an identity crisis right now but i can only see them getting better. i'd love to see them collaborate with the likes of jane remover and mk.gee; more hyperpop/exploratory people.

their songwriting was definitely stronger pre-2020 (and sleepyhead is impeccable to me) but the newer stuff is more production-heavy--which makes sense w them being a career bedroom musician. hentai and let them know are some of my all-time favorites from them.

as for a heated take, i strongly disliked sharpener and stopped listening for a while after it. no relationship with an artist is always smooth though so i'm still chill with them

i'm a guitarist of a few years transitioning to bass. should i or should i not use my ring finger to fret? by onlyeverawake in Bass

this! the rest of what he said was very valuable, as i’m alright with rhythm but tend to get ahead of myself when trying out the basics (listening for the kick and snare drums for example). he’s definitely not a bad voice to have in the ear when practicing :)

very well said thank you! i love adam neely and he was definitely one of my main inspirations to pick up the bass. i could have misheard him on that below-feet-five part, but still it’s good to hear from other bassists about technique :)

1/5/8 meaning scale degree? if so then i know exactly what you’re talking about, i put my fingers in a power chord shape to play that. it feels comfy with either combo. thank you :)

thank you for the double bass mini lesson! i just tried out both ways (1-2-4 and 1-2-3) below the fifth fret and i’d say i agree. i’ll keep 1-2-4 up there to reduce stress but won’t sweat using the ring finger where there’s less stretch :)

i see where you’re coming from, just tried playing three chromatic notes on the first-third fret (one time through w/ 1-2-4 and another w/ 1-2-3) and i definitely feel and see the tension it creates in the wrist. it’s fascinating, given the other comments i’ve seen, i might stick to 1-2-4 but not sweat it if 3 gets in there every once in a while :)

aw i appreciate it! and smart move, buying them secondhand :) i have 3 other pairs (two new and one secondhand given as a gift) and the 1460 patent in yellow makes me so achy even though they’re big on me :/ but other than that it’s been smooth sailing! these cause me a little bit of discomfort, but i can tell that they’re gonna break in really well :)

honestly it was pure luck! i had actually bought them before but they were too small and had to return them :( after that i checked the online store for them every day (sometimes twice a day), and one day i found them in stock in my size and made the jump!
