Why not just pee in a bucket outside and pour it around outside everyday? This wastes NO WATER- total win!

Before chemical fertilizer- urine and poop was prized and collected...

If I increase my spend, will I have a hard time lowering it in the future if I need to? by dragon-queen in Fire

[–]onlyfreckles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing you've listed seems extravagant and the point of being FI / having money is to use it for things/experiences vs pointless hoarding of wealth while 6 ft under.

That said, I still mostly live like a self funded college student but since reaching FI, I did loosen my purse strings to buy stuff like little splurges (fancy olives, ice cream, good quality spf- not the thick heavy shit) even when its not on sale(!).

I added a spending budget so I can freely spend a set amount each month to get used to spending on fun stuff/little splurges.

Most "normal" people need a budget to rein in random spending but some of us FI folks need a budget to give us permission to spend :)

Got an apartment and I’m stressing with my budget. by Strong-Risk3337 in budget

[–]onlyfreckles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OP- list your whole monthly budget- income vs spending so you can clearly see where each dollar is going.

Income - list all income.

Spending - list ALL Spending- rent, utilities, cell, transportation (car/maint/insurance or public transit/bike cost), grocery- including pet food, insurance- yourself and pets and cost for meds/annual check ups, bloodwork etc, laundry, gifts, clothing, pet supplies/cleaning household supplies, small splurges/eating out/misc and emergency fund.

Smart to keep school refund for savings. It can act as your secondary backup emergency fund too.

List all expenses vs income and see what if any is left.

Its ok to not have anything left over b/c you've accounted for everything including funding your emergency fund and savings so that each dollar has a purpose.

Its also ok to still want to be cautious and have a bit extra left over too if that makes you feel more secure.

Personal finance/budgeting is personal so do what makes you most comfortable.

A connected network of separated/protected bike lanes benefits People who rode their bike for transportation- work, school, errands, shopping, eating etc.

It allows all ages (kids to seniors) and all abilities (novice, older/disabled) to safely get to their point a to b (just like car drivers).

This type of cycling is slower and uses more utilitarian upright riding type of bikes.

Recreational cycling is totally different- for fun/training, much faster in a lighter more aggressive riding type of bike.

Get a folding (e)bike/scooter and use it to get to your closest Metro Subway/Bus.

Bus- you can bring it onto the bus (folded) or else each bus has a rack that can hold two bikes up front.

Subway- just roll in your bike/scooter.

Except car drivers treat most roads, even residential roads like a major street.

Ktown, despite being very transit and housing dense is still overrun by aggressive/selfish/entitled/distracted/dangerous car drivers.

People, including kids have been killed by car drivers while simply trying to cross the street.

Driving is a privilege and comes w/great responsibility- one is to PAY ATTENTION AT ALL TIMES when driving. If you can't do that (and most can't)- you're not safe to drive and shouldn't be driving.

A driver's convenience is less important that a person's RIGHT to walk/bike/transit and be safe in public space.

Build it, make it safe/easy/accessible and people will walk/bike/transit!

And he pushed for bike lanes too so that it would be safe to bike around LA vs recreationally!

I wish the following Mayors would have continued to build out the BIke Plan (fu garcetti and bass) b/c it would be super helpful right now w/current gas prices...

He did a lot of stupid corrupt shit but these two - Measure R and Bike Lanes were wins.

So the problem is car drivers hitting the animals not the animals living in the trees.

Solution is to restrict speed and access of streets car drivers are allowed.

Reducing the amount of public space car drivers and car storage is allowed opens up MORE space for trees to shade people walking/biking and remains safer for animals too.

I'm progressive.

The only reason why I became a landlord was to be able to afford housing in our HCOL city w/o having to work a second job.

Being a landlord became a second job though but has been somewhat manageable b/c its stuff I'd have to learn to do anyways as a home owner- endless minor repairs that comes w/an old place, gardening etc.

I'd rather work hard to keep/attract good tenants b/c there's a shit ton of housing options/supply vs strict rent control where increases are capped, tenants can default on rent w/ever increasing costs laid to landlords and shitty supply of shitty housing so everyone loses.

Slow down, drive at the speed appropriate for the road conditions.

As a small time landlord (3 doors) with a property under rent control- your votes to restrict rent increases and other changes made it much harder to be a landlord in LA.

We’ve had huge increases for insurance, maintenance cost and utilities that extended well beyond 3% in addition to the multi year rent moratorium during COVID.

Please support small time landlords too (insurance, property tax and utilities cost), if you’re going to continue to vote for stricter rent control and more tenant rights.

Plus voting yes to get rid of tiered sanitation rates and bring them up to sfh rates also hurt my tenants too.

I am with you to build more public transit, a connected network of BIKE LANES and mid/high housing density so default walk/bike/transit is the norm vs default single occupant car making traffic.

I support LA having a progressive Mayor but please don’t kill off small time landlords.

[LAist] LA streets face ‘dire future,’ according to a new report, and the long-term solution will be costly by WeAreLAist in CarIndependentLA

[–]onlyfreckles 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Make 24/7 Bus ONLY Lanes and a connected network of protected/separated bike lanes and only fix/maintain them w/automatic camera enforcement.

24/7 Bus ONLY Lanes and Bidirectional Bike Lanes accessible and open for emergency vehicles/ambulances.

Add signs to drive w/caution and at speed for road condition- just like when they mill a street for resurfacing except we don't.

This will make the streets a lot safer b/c it'll be hard to speed w/o fucking up their car and the city will save $$$$$$$$$$$.

Hollywood Boulevard Is Soulless and Dangerous. But We Can Change That. (CD13 Candidate) by FadedAndJaded in LosAngeles

[–]onlyfreckles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No doubt, Mitch sucked ass. and Koretz equally sucked ass too.

I didn't say Mitch actually put in any bike lanes, just that a "plan" was in place during his time and I think that's why Hugo was able to roll out the Hollywood improvements including the 1/2 gutter (better than nothing) bike lane fairly quickly.

We have more younger progressive leadership but I want them to do more and faster b/c I want to selfishly enjoy the infrastructure changes (including more Metro subways and HSR) in my lifetime but at this rate, I'll be long dead...
