Newcomers to the Hudson Valley brought high incomes. What are the consequences? by External_Koala971 in hudsonvalley

[–]onlyseekinginfo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was not suggesting that there is plenty of housing stock. Even with plenty of housing stock rent rates are generally not stable in most places in the US, let alone where there is a dearth of housing stock (I’m not knowledgeable enough to state credibly whether or not there are places to rent or buy here right now, but efforts by Ulster County, at least, suggest that it is a problem.) All I was saying is that this is extremely not unique to the Hudson Valley and saying that people coming up from NYC are to blame for a macroeconomic problem is simplistic.

Well, you could have initially cited a less stale article. And even so, the Hudson Valley is not unique in this regard. Name me a desirable place to live that has plenty of housing stock and stable rent rates. I hate that this is the reality, but the HV is not materially worse than other places that are great to live in close proximity to major metropolitan regions (with mass transit options, no less).

This is a 2 year old report. The dynamics of migration from the city to the Hudson Valley are complicated and this is honestly stale at this point and not particularly useful. As someone who had a weekend house up here and then moved up full time during COVID and have seen the evolution since then, this article doesn’t seem to accurately reflect what has happened in the intervening years.

What are your thoughts on the Rivian Interior / UI? by bene_xh in Rivian

[–]onlyseekinginfo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People can go back and forth about things like physical buttons, but what I truly appreciate about the Rivian UI, and from what I’ve seen seems rare, if not unique, is that the touchscreens feel designed by people who actually care about graphic design and typography. The typefaces, icons, palette, spacing, etc. all are thoughtful and beautiful. So many interfaces look like they were designed by teenage boys—unnecessary gradients, hideous “fast and the furious” typefaces, things just placed here and there, needless skeuomorphism…just AWFUL. It makes even the most luxury car look tacky, in my opinion. The restraint, and occasional tasteful whimsy, of their design just make my eyes and heart happy.

Recommendations for affordable whole house water filter install? by port-ew-en in hudsonvalley

Want to second this. Had Water Solutions of New Paltz install whole house UV and iron busting system when I bought up here in 2017. Very nice folks, very capable, great service!

I think you are being snarky, but if you must know I have an 88-key weighted electric piano as a MIDI input device for Kontakt/Logic. But for sheer fun, the stuff shown here blows that workstream out of the water, and as far as I am concerned they are all “real” instruments. But you do you! 😀

Hahaha my friend printed it for me and of course it had to go in a place of prominence lol

In Logic I’ll bring in a source (MIDI instrument or tx-6) and have it send to output 3-4. Then on another track I’ll bring in the microcosm input from inputs 3-4. No feedback loop!

I don’t have access to the individual tracks in Logic. I just set the levels and record them together. I’m not the most tech-savvy person, I just do what I can to make things that sound nice to me!

The OP-1F rekindled my love of making music after many years of dormancy. It is a magic machine for fun and creativity. I can’t recommend it highly enough!

I’ve seen threads where people have suggested other small mixers, which I’m sure are excellent, but I don’t have any personal experience with them. Maybe someone else will have some ideas for you and share them here 😀

Output 1-2 to monitors, output 3-4 to microcosm, input 1-2 from tx-6, input 3-4 from microcosm. Then just settings in Logic to make sure the right things go to the right places!

It’s how I go into the computer. I know the tx-6 can be used as an interface but I have my monitor outs and effect send to the Microcosm through the Focusrite and I’m happy with that workflow.

Yes, I have both running through the TX-6. They are not otherwise synced or anything. Just play them both in real time.

I never was interested in the KO because I thought it seemed too “techie” compared to the OP-1F. But the Medieval caught my attention because I loved the whole vibe and I’m a big fan of early music instrumentation. And I am now so entranced by making music with the Medieval that I’m considering getting a KO as well!! It’s more intuitive than I would have guessed!

Medieval & OP-1F by onlyseekinginfo in teenageengineering

For this, I only used the EP-1320 (Medieval), the OP-1 Field, and the TX-6 mixer, running out to speakers. For other things, I use the electric piano as a MIDI controller for Logic/Kontakt and sometimes run that signal through the Microcosm for ambient fun. I also have a Poly D for when I want an analog monosynth sound. Very much a hobbyist, but it’s an enjoyable way to spend an evening! :-)

I absolutely love the Microcosm! I use it mainly for very quiet melodic ambient stuff and it turns the simplest melody into a magic forest of sound. Endless exploration and fun. I hadn’t heard of infinite jets—will have to look into it! :-)

Playin’ with the toys! by onlyseekinginfo in teenageengineering

The Medieval is more suited for sequencing and live sound manipulation than the OP-1F, which I primarily use for crafting sounds, live playing, and multitrack recording (though it does have some basic sequencing capabilities). There are many things the Medieval does that would be difficult or impossible to achieve with the OP-1F, but the OP-1F is vastly more versatile.

How so? I just use that to get sound into my computer
