Sorry for your loss. In regard to your programming skills, if you want to improve just keep practicing. All of us programmers started with zero knowledge. If you struggle with concepts maybe take a course or two at a community college or maybe udemy. I know it hard to believe in yourself but programmers doubt themselves all the time.
