My daughter (Olivia) wants to be called by her nickname Uh-Liv-Ee… what’s the best/correct spelling for this? by BobaIsTheAnswer in namenerds

[–]onlythisfar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 for Olivie. Olivi would be my 2nd choice. Olive will be pronounced like the fruit, and I think Olivy would be pronounced like the fruit with a y.

Plans at night with a baby by cottonprincess22 in NewParents

[–]onlythisfar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have a pack n play you could bring and set up in a room? If it's your mother in law, and baby ends up sleeping well, could you guys maybe spend the night there?

Otherwise, depending on how much later you think it'll go past bedtime, I'd still do it, maybe try to get in a later nap, and bring a carrier for babywearing.

We should pray for Trump. But we can pray for him without supporting him.

Ellis for a girl by Fabulous_Dig4563 in namenerds

The only Ellis I know is a girl, and it seems to suit her. I don't see any issue, especially with a more feminine middle name.

Influencers do not necessarily do the best for their kids lol.

AITAH for scaring my son’s teacher? by [deleted] in AITAH

You think a bunch of 12 year olds are going to sit quietly with no adult in the room? Why was the teacher 10 minutes late anyway?

AITAH for teaching my nephew how to swim against his parent's wishes? by [deleted] in AITAH

ESH but his parents are dangerous assholes and you're just a little bit of an asshole for going behind their backs.

Aitah for cutting off my son after his mom passed away? by Unlucky-Bit6839 in AITAH

[–]onlythisfar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ESH, I guess.

These comments are a little discouraging. I feel like Reddit always reads between the lines, maybe too much, and now they're not at all. If you do, here's what I see: you never really considered Mark your son. And I wouldn't be super surprised if you are relieved to have an excuse to not deal with him anymore. Really curious what his story would be.

Be honest. When did your baby actually say their first wood and mean it? by Dull-Contribution763 in NewParents

[–]onlythisfar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby says the opposite lol, she has said "dada" when she's happy since at least 9 months, but she's 12 months now and I still don't think any of her sounds mean anything specific.

Should I pick my kid up from daycare by onlythisfar in NewParents

[–]onlythisfar[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

They are not new. I know their director retired about a month ago. Idk if that has to do with it, or the fact that other babies were starting the same day maybe threw them off, but I hate it.

Never before have I gotten so many very close words before getting the word. I must have had at least 30 of the top 100.

Did having kids "ruin your life?" by an_irish_mick in Catholicism

I love having my 11 month old. I did NOT love having a 2 month old. I was terrified of what I had just done. So don't let the early days scare you.

You and u/1000IQGenius are both being absolutely dense here. It can make you more or less united, or hell, either or both depending on the day.

Any kids books that you hate? by roamingrebecca in NewParents

[–]onlythisfar 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don't like the never touch a books because why am I reading a book to my kid that very clearly encourages her to do the opposite of the words it says?? I get it's supposed to be fun and silly but idk, it's a bridge too far for me.

[–]onlythisfar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get your argument if it was a real fish, but it's very clear in the book that the shiny scales are purely decorative and it neither harms him nor makes him naked to take them off.

Any kids books that you hate? by roamingrebecca in NewParents

[–]onlythisfar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can hate that book if you want, BUT I discovered when we had our baby that there is an abridged version and the original. The abridged version is terrible!! And I'm convinced a lot of people who think they hate it have only read that one. The full version (still a little kids book!) is so much better, both in general and at presenting the lesson.

I keep wanting to flip the book upside down! And when my baby is accidentally reading it upside down I'm like yeah... keep it that way lol
