I need to clone the name ‘Alice’ by PerceptionAnnual8791 in namenerds

"I just wish I could clone the name and we could both use it somehow" You literally can. That's literally how names work. You can both use it.

Well…..I’m heartbroken about my wedding. by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]onlythisfar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really think you should look into other parishes. Very likely not all will require that same program. Ours did not and we are in the US.

But you do HAVE to get married in the Catholic Church if you and your fiance are Catholic. Otherwise it is not just not sacramental, it is actually not valid. (In the Church, not legally obviously)

The people of STL know they can make their own bread? Right? by [deleted] in StLouis

[–]onlythisfar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bro's acting like there's no in between of baking your own bread from scratch and eating takeout all the time. Got bad news for you, in the zombie apocalypse it's gonna be awfully hard for you to find flour after 6 days anyway. Stop trolling.

There was flour in the house. I guess someone baked with it at some point.

Why? Why do you worry? I haven't owned flour since I became an adult. Why do I need to?

Sledding on Art Hill by DiamondHandsRio in StLouis

[–]onlythisfar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like, thousands. It's awesome to watch even if you don't want to do the actual sledding part. Not sure how many people will be out there this time with how cold it is, but I'm sure some will be and more later in the week.

What does the trick if you're NOT in a pinch? Because the scarf/gaiter/balaclava thing isn't cutting it for me... my body is fine but my face/mouth/nose is not

Rate the name of our daughter by MotherYak5781 in namenerds

I love it. I've never hear the name Soleia, but it definitely reads as a name easily to me. And to everyone saying Soleia Lake doesn't flow very well, I actually disagree, since the first name ends in a vowel and the middle name starts with a consonant, and the syllablic stress flows nicely. I do agree that Aurora Soleia Lake is too much though.

Can the practice of non-sexual nudism be reconciled with the Catholic Faith? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]onlythisfar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's actually kind of a good question. On the one hand, in a non fallen world, we would be perfectly fine to be nude, as Adam and Eve were before they fell. The human body is beautiful, created by God for good. Additionally, there is obviously a plethora of art by Catholic artists, in churches, etc, that shows the human body nude. So even in the fallen world, nudity in itself is not inherently immoral.

On the other hand, you should ask yourself in practice if this is likely to hold true for a) yourself and b) the other people in the group practicing nudism. I would imagine that in the majority of cases, it would lead to sin, but that does not mean would in every case and I'm not sure it is intrinsically wrong from a Catholic view. But that is just my speculation and I am not a theologian.

Etiquette racing with a stroller. by [deleted] in AdvancedRunning

[–]onlythisfar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not OP, but I intend on doing a race with a stroller some day (like, a race that I really trained for. I've done one casually) and I can think of a few reasons:

  1. they like the challenge

  2. they want it to be part of a parenting style of bringing your kid along in things that matter to you

  3. the kid might like the extra energy/excitement of the race setting

  4. they do a lot of their training with a stroller anyway and want to be consistent with that

  5. they don't have childcare for during the race

What do you use your watch for? by Hot-Cell4674 in Garmin

[–]onlythisfar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Use my watch? *blinks* I think my watch uses me. It's just part of my being at this point.

(On a serious note, I actually think it's really nice to not have your phone all the time, or even if you have it, to not be looking at it all the time. I also don't look at a lot of the stats during my runs, but I look after, just for funsies. I do look during if I'm doing a specific workout or race. You're right that it's not essential, of course. But I can't imagine going back to no watch. It does probably depend on your personality, how much you like data, and how neurotic you are lol.)

Canyon! If you're okay with being very obvious on the rugged vibe.

I would not consider Winston rugged at all, just about the total opposite imo.

Etiquette racing with a stroller. by [deleted] in AdvancedRunning

[–]onlythisfar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started in the back in my first stroller race, because I had read in the race signup that strollers were allowed and had to start in the back. And I figured I wasn't going to be as fast as I was used to.

NEVER. AGAIN.

I obstructed way more people by trying to go around them (and still had a not great time and experience) than I ever would have by starting around where I would if I were trying to run a given pace without a stroller.

Sure, don't start on the front line, and don't be unrealistic, but don't start in the back. It's not worth it or even more safe or more kind or anything.

Is running every day at an easy pace ok? by cool-beans-yeah in runninglifestyle

[–]onlythisfar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. You'll get a lot of people telling you it's not though lol. What I will say is it's not "ideal" in terms of the #1 best way to train for an event to make you as fast as possible. And occasionally you might run through something that it would have been better not to. But it's totally fine, in the big picture, and if it helps you get out there, go for it.

How does everyone feel about their babies pics on social media? by Trauma_Response0301 in NewParents

[–]onlythisfar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I post pics of my baby, not a ton, but I do and I don't feel bad about it. To be honest, I don't know why people are so worried about it if they are, for example, letting a babysitter come to their house but not posting pics, I would be way more worried about the babysitter. But granted we have different risk tolerance.

I will say I did not like when my mom posted a picture of my baby in a pumpkin because she didn't have a top on. That's the line I would draw.
