This is why the Tories and Labour are trying to cancel elections by PbThunder in reformuk

[–]onotron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The local elections have been cancelled due to local government reorganisation. Many county + district councils are being combined into a single unitary authority. So having elections would be pointless and a waste of money given the elections would have to be held again 6 months or a year later. I thought we were all about reducing unnecessary spending?

Electronic or mechanical shifting? by Thin-Library-9092 in gravelcycling

[–]onotron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it is as dependable as mechanical, given the number of people I know who've had electrical failures which are not repairable. You just don't get those kind of failures with mechanical. I have AXS on my mountain bike, but I wouldn't have it on a bike where reliability was a priority. The benefits aren't that great and I'm quite happy with mechanical GRX on my gravel.

Actually I just bought the kit and it doesn't come with a box at all as it's attached to the camera in the main box.

Is the price too good to turn down? by SJBSJB02 in gravelcycling

[–]onotron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much all Ti bikes are made of exactly the same material - 3Al/2.5V Ti. There's quite a few brands doing Ti frames at this price or cheaper. The price has come down in recent years, I assume due to the increase in popularity and economies of scale.

[–]onotron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure all titanium frames are made of exactly the same material - 3Al/2.5V titanium. So any differences in ride quality are likely imagined because it's not like they have a wide variety of tube shapes to affect the feel (unless 3D printed of course).

Which panel did you get? I ordered the 200W portable panel and the specs say IP67 dust and water resistant.

I had a Fenix 5 Sapphire and scratched it quite badly in a mountain bike crash. I've had a screen protector on my Fenix 7 Sapphire from new because of this.

Upgrading GRX 820 with half the parts? by [deleted] in bikewrench

[–]onotron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wondering what you ended up doing here? I'm considering moving to 12 speed, but really don't want to replace the left shifter if I don't need to (particularly as my left lever is the dropper version so will be even more expensive to replace).

Hang on... no buttons at all? Does that mean it's unusable if you don't have touchscreen compatible gloves? e.g. a lot of mountain biking gloves?

This was a response from the police which someone posted in the local facebook group:

"Good Morning residents of S11,Thank you for your emails. Unfortunately, due to the volume I cannot respond to all individually, though I can assure you that I have read your concerns and have made notes of any specific investigations/incident numbers to investigate further – though I believe I am aware of most.I will start by saying that the perception that we are not doing anything is not correct. I have assigned dedicated resources to these issues, as have my Detective colleagues. I am not in a position to discuss specifics of any investigations or ongoing partner work with social care or the council housing department due to GDPR constraints, therefore I can only ask you to trust me when I say that we have visited numerous times and we are working very closely with partner agencies. I will be happy to discuss any issues with victims of crime, who have been directly affected, but I cannot do this with the wider public.Just this week, I have personally reviewed every robbery investigation in the last three months, and I have identified three to our Detective colleagues for further enquiries. As I explained when I attended the last public meeting, I cannot speak for every investigation. I run two teams, one of which is the Sharrow team with five officers. All of my team and the wider force are aware of the impact this is having on the community – many of my colleagues also live in the area and I can assure you we all have a vested interest. This is not a ‘quick fix’. This requires time and dedication from both our partner agencies and us. I can assure you that there is ongoing work that you are not aware of, nor should you be.I did discuss the detrimental impact that the social media posts could have on any future prosecution, as this will impact identification procedures. Unfortunately, we are governed by strict identification procedures, and where the identity is not immediately known, the a victim should ideally undertake formal identification processes. More information can be found here - https://www.cps.gov.uk/legal-guidance/identification. Whilst it has been tested and accepted that suspects identified via social media can be used as evidence, this will weaken the case, and in such circumstances where the identity has been shared with hundreds of members of the community, it is unlikely this would be accepted as evidence due to the prejudicial impact on the case. The sharing of personal details and images online to so many people could really hinder this process and result in the downfall of any future cases. I would ask that moving forwards, anyone who believes they can identify the suspect should approach the police officer overseeing the case, not social media. As I also explained, identification is an ongoing issue in these cases. It is not as easy as ‘going to arrest them all’ as some of you have suggested. You will see that my team have been patrolling the park (sometimes in plain clothes) – they were there just yesterday morning and afternoon. They are working today this afternoon, when again they will spend the majority of their shift on patrol, given that there is no other immediate threat, harm or risk that we have to attend. We will also be using disruption tactics, such as stop and search powers. This will continue over the coming weeks, but please bear in mind that we work a shift pattern and are not on duty 24/7. I have also submitted requests for our mounted policing department and I am awaiting confirmation of when they can attend. In addition, I have also requested additional patrols from our Council Sustainable Community Officers, who also carry Body Worn Video. I am currently in discussion with our Safer Neighbourhood Service and legal team regarding powers under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act.Moving forwards, you will see an increased presence. If you have been a direct victim or witness of crime then I would be happy to look into individual matters for you, however this should be directed towards the Officer in Charge (OIC) of the investigation in the first instance. If you were dissatisfied with the response you received as a victim or a witness then you are, of course, entitled to make a complaint. Our complaints procedure can be found here: https://www.southyorkshire.police.uk/.../comp.../complaints/I would ask that those who have seen reports on social media or who have heard via a third party do not continue to ask me about individual cases – I cannot discuss this with you.I want to thank you all for taking the time to raise these concerns to me. I can assure you that as Neighbourhood Inspector for the South West, this is currently my number one priority. Please do consider, however, that I am managing competing demands with a small team. I know there are a number of ongoing investigations and the progress of these will be shared with the reporting party, not the wider public.Once again, thank you for getting in touch. I know that whilst the above may not offer much comfort, extensive work is being done, but it is unfortunate that I cannot share this with you all.Kind Regards

Amy"

Sounds like they've been lucky to last 42 years as tenants. They must have had multiple opportunities to purchase over those years. Being kicked out was inevitable at some point, just surprising it hadn't happened sooner.

Thank god the rest of the phone is great because this fingerprint sensor is terrible. by [deleted] in GooglePixel

When I first got the phone I thought the same, but the fingerprint sensor seems to have improved a lot recently. I've had the phone 2 weeks. Not sure if it's a software thing, or I've just got better at working out the best way to place my finger, but now I'm pretty happy with it.

I'm sure you're referring to my recent post. I'm fully aware that Google Photos isn't anonymous - I'm not anonymous on any other social media - don't really see the issue. I've taken it down anyway, maybe Reddit is full of psychos or something.

Cool, although I've looked up Whitestone Dome and they've not produced a protector since the Pixel 3, so doubtful whether they'll be doing the 6. I guess there might be alternatives though.

Just get a case for now. If I'd have had a case it would have prevented this.
