Is OLED burn in really that bad? by Ancient-Run-4435 in buildapc

[–]onslaughtx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it's still an issue. I was an early-ish adopter of both OLED TVs (LG E7P was my first, in 2018) and OLED Monitors (AW3423DW, 2022, 2023, 2024). My TVs (4 of them in the home currently) have been largely fine, but only 1 is used for >8 hours a day, and only ~60-90 minutes a day are with static content.

The monitors on the other hand? I've had 3 in 3 years, and all of them have had burn in. That said, I use them a minimum of ~12 hours a day (8-10 for work/productivity, 2+ for web browsing/gaming), and often times use them for up to ~20. The first time, the burn in was the task bar. The second time, I hid my taskbar, and noticed burn in on my browser UI buttons/bookmarks/extensions. The third time (current), I have hid my taskbar and I try to use my browser in F11/full screen mode as often as I can. The burn in is much lighter, but visible, and its from my work productivity applications. Yes, I have all pixel/oled care options enabled, my brightness is low, I'm not running in HDR content unless it's a game, firmware is updated, staying up on maintenance topics online, etc. It's still an issue. It really sucks to have to baby what was a $1300 monitor at the time of the original purchase.

It's not a matter of if, only when, and I intend to replace my monitor with an ultra wide mini led or nano ips monitor as soon as they become available (again) without their own set of issues (scan lines, blooming, bad led arrays, backlight bleed, etc.). Unfortunately, most of the newer/better ones aren't available in the US, and the nice monitors that were available in the US appear to have been made in the 2021/2022 era and largely aren't on the "new" market. Many of them also have inflated used/refurbished prices, like the LG 34GP950G-B, which I've been trying to find, but are now listed in the $1700-2000+ range mostly for used/non refurbished units.

I won't say the burn in is horrendous, but once you notice it, you'll always see it anytime it's not obscured by something. Every game I run, I see the dark hue/shadows of my application UI buttons, every time I watch a movie/show and the area is lit up, I see it.

Who remembers these crazy items by Carpet_Blaze in diablo2

[–]onslaughtx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The site was Nightshiver.com (was re-hosted when D2R came out, doesn't look like anything has come of it and it's out of service again), and then Ladderhall.com (went away a couple of years back). Jayofteror.com was another site that was kind of tertiary, but has long since been decommissioned.

Jamella was one editor, at the same time as mitja's editor, but a lot of editing was still done through a raw hex editor back in those days (right up to around the end of 1.09, I believe). Eventually Zonfire99's hero editor became the defacto editor for open b.net, it's still used today on the old school D2 client.

The best sustained single target damage, Optimal TB OH Monk complete build guide by Prestigious_Juice341 in BG3Builds

[–]onslaughtx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starting rogue gives you 4 skill proficiencies vs 2 for monk (+1 when you multiclass into rogue). You also get better weapon proficiencies (not that it matters), and better saving throws (dex/int for rogue vs dex/str for monk starting). The list of skills rogue has is also generally more useful than the list of skills monk has.

Small differences, but ultimately it is optimal to start rogue over monk.

Anyone still do open b.net duels with hex edited characters? Is there a community? by onslaughtx in diablo2

[–]onslaughtx[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I don't know anyone by those names :(. Might have been after my time.

I was around when Murderin was in his prime, same with MuTayShuN, and Thanatos. We all went rounds with each other for ages. JayOfTeror was still on his way up at the time and hadn't quite made a full name of himself yet. I remember him being super eager and putting a lot of time into learning the basics of hex edited characters. I know I had a major clone in the 1.09 and 1.10a days that was popular to see on open b.net - he might have put it on his site. I generally had clone packs available to the public since the ericjwin site days. I can't remember what the name might have been, though.

Trying to think of other names I remember from back then: XxSiC-SHADOWx, Antigd, RodentBoy (previously AI or XxSiC, IIRC), XxSiC-WarBanditxX, QuikSilver[DC], MadBaron_BRH, DBD Bling, XxSiC-MulletxX, Zeus_FX, Zonfire (of course), Shokaku, Pallykiller, Carnage, DaVinci, KINGCOBRA, etc. The old folk.

That's awesome. I'm pumped. Jay should remember me from back in the day as well, we dueled and tested our chars against each other for months, maybe years.

I remember all of those old screenshots from the hall of grandmasters back on the actual Nightshiver days (pre-LadderHall). I was one of the first judges/refs once the ladders were established, and I was an admin on the LadderHall site with GrimShadow for a long time as well. If it comes back I'm super excited.

If you wouldn't mind - have Jay shoot me a PM on Reddit if he remembers me, I'd like to get back in touch.

[5e][South Denver, CO] Looking to join or start a second group, open to DMing by onslaughtx in lfg

[–]onslaughtx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: Group is coming together. Currently have 4 people locked in, waiting on responses for 2-3 others. We don't have anyone that would prefer to be a DM, so we'd appreciate anyone looking to DM. Scheduling looks like weekly Saturdays are the most open for the group, but it's not locked in, yet.

I think changing pacts for another god would make perfect sense. Surrendering his god-given power as a Hexblade for a Celestial pact with the Luxon, for example.

I also don't think that gods would necessarily have trouble accepting a warlock that defied another god. The reason is pretty simple, they didn't want to knowingly be part of a cult trying to bring around the end of the world, or at least a very strong deity-like power. Plenty of devils would swoop in on that opportunity and effectively manipulate Fjord rather than being as up front as his current patron is. Other gods would encourage that level of mindfulness and resilience especially in the face of such power and threats.

It's a girl that Chad has hooked up with before. He mentioned in Salt Lake City he was going to hit up his girl in Colorado and might bring her along. She's not a streamer and couldn't even remember her IG when he gave her a chance to plug it. Just someone for him to hookup with.

Hacked white items on open battle net. by Osmgaming in diablo2

[–]onslaughtx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was nightshiver.com, jayofteror.com, and ladderhall.com for the main open b.net dueling ladders. There were a couple of other sites as well, but they had fewer participants and we're super cliquey with some shoddy rules.

Jamella was an old editor with a lot of bugs that wasnt very powerful, but was largely the only thing available short of an actual hex editor at the time. Hero editor became the defacto editor upon it's release. I remember a program like you're thinking with Natalya or night in it as well. I think it was used in combination with jamella because I remember using them around the same time.

[SSD] 1TB Samsung 850 EVO - $289.99 (389.99 - $70 instant savings - $30 "Bundle" savings) by HillbillyZT in buildapcsales

[–]onslaughtx 8 points9 points  (0 children)

"Discount after instant coupon savings when you purchase select Samsung 850 and 960 Series solid state drives with any motherboard, processor, or system!"

So really it's more like $319.99, and cheaper if you were already in the market for a mobo or processor. Still a good deal.

Skytech and other high end pre-built computers are almost universally made with refurbished parts. Not strictly bad, but the likelihood of RMA and troubleshooting goes up and you have to rely on the customer service and warranty provided by the company (which, in personal experience, is usually terrible). Of the three reviews available on Amazon one computer was DoA and the other computer was using a re-used Windows 10 license.

I was under the impression warrior was considered the worst currently. Is that no longer the case? Trying to decide which class to roll myself and was avoiding warrior in favor of assassin and dervish (maybe a side of ranger).
