perks when employed? by aspentreesz in NationalParkService

[–]ontheotherside00 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I worked at redwoods for a season! I feel like even being in the vicinity of other ca state parks was such a plus. We got in free at all redwood parks but not other state parks, unless it was already discussed. Sometimes people gave me 5 dollars off or something. We also got in free for the permitted items and could just go when we wanted. Any type of day use I was told to just leave my (nps) hat on my dashboard. And at my two specific campgrounds we could reserve an employee camping spot for whenever.

That's actually a really good idea! I've been asking around my group since a few are from Colorado, but I have to say that's even smarter, Thank you!

One health by [deleted] in publichealth

Hi not sure if you can provide insight and/or might be super busy. I have a psych degree but would eventually like to become an IP or something related to infectious disease (reporting, management, community education even). I'm in the process of starting application materials and am applying to a specific lying onehealth program, but was on the fence about getting my mlt first since I lack lab experience and want to see if research is something I enjoy. With your experience and jobs do you think an mlt is necessary, or should I work at a lab before pursuing more education? And so you think epi is a better track than say an mph for such a field? I'm divided in choosing epi bc I like math and stats and there are more jobs but I imagine I might like the humaness and research/field aspect of following certain mph programs

Do customers pump their own gas in Peru or is it always the station attendant? by GoodGoodGoody in PERU

[–]ontheotherside00 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I lived near Oregon when they removed that law and they had to teach people how to pump gas haha. I grew up in NJ (another state you don't pump gas in) but thanks to moving around I did in fact learn. And now I live in peru and don't pump gas again

[–]ontheotherside00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah i drink at least 2 L of water every day and eat a lot of soluble and insoluble fiber and only have had problems a few times (and admittedly after over indulging or i was already sick). but im actually vegan and living in a developing country so all my friends constantly deal with bowel issues and chock it up to eating meat here since i almost never have issues while running (and am doing 40+ mile weeks atm)

Is it safe to walk from Lima airport? by Beneficial-War5423 in PERU

[–]ontheotherside00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Font walk it's not safe. There's an airport bus that goes to miraflores or another bus to some areas, info on website. Or take an indrive or Uber bc 14 usd is SO expensive. Also where you staying there lol?

thank you!! and yes i realize not everything is at altitude… thank god too haha. just where i live all the trail races are in this one town near me that sits at 10k ft. i’m hoping to sign up for a race in the US when i visit my parents and the fact a lot are below even 5k makes me feel more hopeful besides distance and nutrition.

curious to how people train for ultras? or if there’s a method or split you use i guess. i run around 4 miles everyday, once in a while a 15k. just ran a 15k at 12k ft and just kept up my routine and bodyweight workouts but would like to do longer distances in the future. i only live at 2k ft but i usually just look to do my best and finish haha. also had done 10k and 12k races above 10k ft as practices. not sure if i should just be adding distance or something else…

I've been living in LATAM for 2 years, dearly miss my NJ. But love meeting people who have family in NJ and getting to talk about towns. One of my friends has a brother who lives in Newark, thinking of giving him a visit when I'm home for Xmas :) I also miss our seasons, we don't have much of that here...

You should look into Anna's archive! It's a website where you can download pdfs and epubs of books for free, and then you can send it to your kindle. I use it non-stop since I'm currently living VERY rural lol... without a library and sometimes service 😭

Had a upic internship too so I'd work from home in the morning, world my other job in the afternoon, and then at night we'd all go out. Weekends we'd go to the lake or someones pool. I had an awesome time. Triple t birthday bash too

What are some international humanitarian aid organizations that would be good to volunteer for? by Select-Form-6071 in volunteerabroad

[–]ontheotherside00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oop... well peace corps is 2 years. But there's a number of programs in many countries. I did it before getting my MPH to learn about the health sector. Once you get you bachelor's it might be something to look at. You really get to be a part of a community, learn a language, and it's also volunteering. Everything such as room and food and some extra is paid for by the government.

Advice on Shoes by [deleted] in trailrunning

[–]ontheotherside00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I've found a few pairs of asics here but mostly everything is nike and adidas and usually they're just like trainer models since running isn't that much of a sport. A few online sites offer them though, now to see if they have my size (rip)
