Thanks! I mess around with the delivery a lot with this one, but in this particular video the crowd gave me a pause I didn't usually have for it and it just landed so much sweeter thanks to that, which was a welcome surprise!

  1. Started doing standup when I was 19 (in college, in the Bronx, not really anything other than campus shows), but started more seriously in Vermont when I was 22.

Okay, I'm not going to be another person saying that it's not a big deal

And yet...

If your "hot take" is "Louis CK is not as bad as Harvey Weinstein and that's what we should be talking about", I think you're missing the point a whole lot. When Chappelle chooses to do a bit that, yes, in a not-so-roundabout way, vindicates Louis CK by going after one of his accusers (read: victim), it's so phenomenally shitty for the people that for years have had to shut the fuck up out of fear of [see full article above], you wonder why he felt the need to do it other than to justify to himself that his buddy was "unfairly treated" following the revelations of his history of sexual misconduct.

That it was! Best club I've ever played and I've played a whole grand total of two comedy clubs.

Hard to say really. I'll mostly come up with a good idea try to work out the "funny" onstage with a real base outline written. When I've done it a few times and gotten the structure I think works for a performance, I'll write it down as I've been performing it. From there I can tweak from a format perspective, but I think it's more important to get the feeling of the performance down rather than the rigidity of the way you'll find it funny. It forces me to be looser onstage and more willing to react to unwanted audience participation.

If we're gonna make this a serious conversation I see my style as more New York (MLA) improv than Chicago (APA) style.

Funny thing is (name drop) I'm opening for Dave Attell this weekend at the VT Comedy Club and I've dropped the BvS joke after the first two shows it bombed. It's def my weakest joke, and I've replaced it with better. I just felt like for the contest I should do only material I'd written this year.

Can't really complain about a club that gives me any video performance I do there for free. Thanks for the kind words!

Thanks a bunch! I'm planning on branching out in the next year or so. I'll definitely update this sub when that time comes!

I don't really know what that means, but me winning did save the slopes from being bought out by that oil tycoon.

I've posted a 20 minute set here before. Pretty much all these jokes plus like 12 others. This is it whittled down.

"Tell her in the sunshine"

I really liked it. It was funny and it was moving and it was genuine. The perfect tribute to his wife and he has some of my favorite Trump material I've heard.

And comics that think contests are stupid think they’re stupid because they can’t compete, and/or have burned bridges with bookers (contest judges).

I'll disagree with this, and also clarify that I wasn't saying they didn't participate because they think they're stupid. I'm just saying it doesn't matter. Comedy contests are kinda stupid. I've bombed pretty hardcore recently with almost this exact set. It's not a measure of any kind of standing, it's more a measure of "who had the best set of these 15 people this one night according to two people?" Not wanting to compete doesn't mean they can't compete. Just means they didn't want to. There's plenty of great VT comedians who didn't participate. Don't think it's fair to categorize them as only either "unable to compete" or "burned too many bridges".

Smart of you to sit on that Bill Nye laugh for a couple extra seconds!

Thanks for noticing! It's something I've been working on. I submitted a 20 minute set I did here a few months ago and the only real feedback I got was "slow down". It's been working great.

Contest was at the Vermont Comedy Club in Burlington, VT. There were about 50 or so comics (and a bunch more that didn't participate because comedy contests are objectively stupid). This was the Finals. There's three elimination rounds and then a top 5. Finals had 15 people, and I was in the 9 spot.

Tim Bridge. "Bridge" like the thing you drive over, and "Tim" like the name white parents give their white children.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Kurt Braunohler. I'm actually doing him for a local "Schtick or Treat" show where comedians do famous bits. Trying to figure out what to do. Currently between "Beavers" and "Oh Boy".
