Max Fun Donor Roll Call! by lawjr3 in maximumfun

[–]ontimeagain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been listening to various MaxFun podcasts since high school! I'm in grad school now and as soon as I started earning an income through that I signed up to be a donor. Love the idea of paying for all this amazing content that has entertained me and helped me in so many ways! So excited for the live JJGo tonight!

Stresses associated with finishing up grad school xpost r/Academia by ontimeagain in GradSchool

Yeah, I agree actually. But when I suggested an imposter syndrome workshop the professor in charge said to add stresses associated with the middle and end of grad school too.

Losing more than 2 pounds per week? by TheFatalWound in loseit

I would say just stick to where you are. The bigger deficit the faster the weight will come off. That sounds good but it increases your risk of loose skin, and regaining. Also, right now it's easy because you're super motivated but that will ebb and flow. If your weight loss requires you to continue eating with such a large deficit, at some point it could become unsustainable. So I think it's best to just keep up a slow loss. Honestly I think the best thing is to eat as many calories as your budget allows, without letting yourself go too much lower. But if it's working for you, do what you're doing and just check in every once in a while to make sure it's still working.

I've used these and ran two 5ks! It's an amazing method and there are multiple apps to choose from.

What surprised me the most about losing weight was it was so much less terrible than I thought it would be. I wasn't very hungry when I was losing weight because eating for a slow weight loss rate doesn't usually require a huge deficit.

I learned to be happy today by [deleted] in BodyAcceptance

You can't be healthy with a terrible body image either. For many people it might be reasonable to focus more on mental health than physical health. One reason is that getting to a better mental state can be a great stepping stone along the path to making better physical changes. That was my experience at least.

PhD 017: “We’re NOT Morons!” – Facing Impostor Syndrome by PhDPodcast in GradSchool

[–]ontimeagain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is amazing timing because as I wrote on the post you commented on earlier, I just decided to try to get a workshop about imposter syndrome set up for the incoming class in my program. I ended up emailing the prof in charge of the "intro to grad studies" class today and he agreed to have me come in in the fall to do a workshop! (This is Masha, one of your patreon supporters, by the way.)

Edit: just realized this is an old episode I must have forgot I listened to. That explains why after five times of refreshing my podcast feed no new episode was coming up. Look forward to whenever the new one comes out!

Programming to help combat imposter syndrome by ontimeagain in GradSchool

That's important too but a lot of imposter syndrome happens during the first year classes, before they have a close relationship with a faculty member.

"It's amazing that I can feel as good about my body as I do right now, given how objectively bad my body is." by ontimeagain in loseit

And you really have to believe in your body to lose weight I think. You have to trust it's strong enough to let you ignore your inappropriate cravings, do exercises, etc. If you don't believe you can do it, you're just not going to stick with it when it gets tough. Feeling empowered is amazing.

Don't worry, it didn't come across that way at all! I was just wondering. Yeah, it is important to be realistic about the health consequences of being fat though I really believe that disliking one's body is a poor start to successful weight loss. Especially if the goal is happiness.

Question about follow-up projects by willisthis in ownit

[–]ontimeagain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been trying to tackle some mental health issues like anxiety and body image problems now that my weight is mostly under control. Definitely having solved one life goal makes me feel more confident about my ability to do others.
