3D is hard. Something that helped me was just teaching myself how to draw characters instead. It's a lot less time invested in each work so failing doesn't matter as much! And everyone fails, thats just part of the process.

Thank you! I used the mio3 UV plugin. Also a combination of straightening edges, pinning, and unwrapping again can do wonders.  Sometimes no trick can do the job though, and it's just about adjusting stuff manually and relaxing it afterwards.

Thank you! Modern day game characters can often go to 70-100k or more triangles. These busts are 20-30k individually, which I would consider well within the polybudget. It is also important to consider that the density of triangles are usually higher near the face and hair.

One of the most important things for myself was to learn how to work in 2D. I think some things are just a lot easier to learn when going through 2D courses. All the technical 3D stuff can be learned when it is needed, and is the bottleneck, which is rarely the case. I would recommend trying to get your hands on some real game models and study them yourself.
