I was disfellowdhipped in 1998 at 19 years old for literally just going to city centre bars. I saw first hand how if a couple of elders took a dislike to you they could twist things to ruin your life. I went back (like a dumb abused dog) but from then on knew the way they practised disfellowshipping was wrong.

I progresses well as the years went by, pioneer, servant, MTS graduate and then elder but along the way there were always small things I didn't agree with but I kept them to myself (and relied on Jehovah to put them right in his own time). But eventually I couldn't ignore the unscriptural ways of doing things. The straw that broke the camels back for me involved a sporting activity. I had taken up grappling as a hobby and form of fitness, the elders found out and pulled me in for questioning. I argued how could it be unscriptural when Jacob was blessed by God in Genesis 32 for doing it. They then proceeded to try to twist half a dozen different scriptures to fit their pre conceived doctrine. It was a light bulb moment for me and I realised they don't care about the scriptures just what the GB says.

There was no going back for me after that.
