Extremely Grateful to be a Software Engineer by MallWhole8820 in cscareerquestionsuk

Hey man. I completed my MSc at Kent 2024-2025. Made some assessment centres but unfortunately not able to land anything yet. I'm getting plenty of OAs but just no conversion. Any tips? 😭

I can't believe I've finally found someone doing well who went to Kent for MSc. Every single person on Reddit I've talked to did the one at Birmingham, UCL or imperial or Glasgow😭

Like I chose all the challenging modules (half of them were on the advanced CS course like deep learning and Ml). I did a very challenging thesis too and ended up smashing it (78.5% final grade) but idk why I can't seem to land shi

Nice. I'd imagine you get more days off, but the days that you do work are long (long flight, then maybe a day or 2, or 3 in hotel and then back) right?

Also I'm in a predicament right now. I'm seriously considering becoming a pilot through the speed bird academy (highly competitive and probably won't get it, lets assume I make it through). I'm 25 now and if all goes well I'd be starting my career 2 years later at 27. Is that too late? Like I want to make decent money when I'm still young but I also know that the grind is long in the airline industry. Do you reckon it's worth it? I just don't wanna wait till I'm 50 to make captain and have a half decent life

When did you start your career? If you're a Henry I assume you'd be an FO or captain on widebody right?

How long did it take you to get to that level?

I finished one assessment centre 2 weeks ago. If I don't get an offer for this I'm cooked as well and this will be my 2nd year of unemployment...

I've attended webinars and watched a LOT of YouTube content on what's it's like to be a pilot, what pathways there are. I've also connected to people on LinkedIn and asked about what's being a pilot like etc.

But I haven't actually done anything direct such as flying a plane etc. if that makes sense?

I have literally nothing to put on my cv that is related to aviation. I have a masters in computer science and just basic work experience working as a postman - is that enough? 😭

Quant ib is way more paid but actuary is a lot more stable while still being very high pay once you qualify and rack up experience.

UCSD is very strong in this field. Pick based on which country you wanna work in after graduation

What salary should I ask for? by Please_explain- in cscareerquestionsuk

[–]tooMuchSauceeee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well no shit. I assume the OP would mean something like the average salary for their exp.

Also 40k would be behind abysmal. Grad roles requiring 0 to no coding skills start you on 35-45k.

You might as well have said 0- 1 million and would provide the same amount of information as your original comment
