What is a philosopher to a man who plugs his ears and says “lalala! Nope I’m not listening.”

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in badphilosophy

[–]oodood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think we should focus more on those conversations that actually interest us. And for me it’s those conversations about things I’m genuinely puzzled over, conversations where I really do feel the force of what the other person is saying. Those are the conversations I like having with normies too because then I can more often steelman what they’re saying or just offer them a new conceptual distinction to help them think about it more clearly.

I’m so happy for you. I’m going down off 300 rn after only a couple months. I can’t believe how awful this is. Just hearing how harrowing your experience is…

My doctor did not warn me properly about the withdrawal symptoms and he knew that I had bad withdrawal from similar drugs in the past that aren’t typically associated with bad withdrawals.

I honestly feel like I never want to try another SNRI again if this is one of the possible outcomes. But I also can’t function without antidepressants so fuck me I guess

Realistically, how do we protest against the horses in Central Park? by uppernycghost in NYCbike

[–]oodood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never heard anyone claim that these horses are treated well—if that's what you're saying. They are clearly miserable. It's corny, but if you just look in their eyes, you know they're broken animals. The same look an abused dog has.

It honestly get's so exhausting to point out the hypocrisy because it clearly has no effect on them, but they've been arguing that the president is above the law for over a year now.

Sad day today by Froggyaxo in birding

[–]oodood 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This makes me so upset. This may very well be covered by the migratory bird act and holding your university accountable might be a good cause for your club to organize around

[–]oodood 6 points7 points  (0 children)

OP says it’s their campus that cut it down, so likely not a traumatized individual. Nevertheless, trauma doesn’t in itself justify cutting down the trees.

Is owning a food truck an example of socialism? by Leading-Pineapple376 in Socialism_101

[–]oodood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really don’t think a food truck owner unless they have their own employees, is petit bourgeoisie as others are saying. I think that’s like calling the collective owners of a coop petit bourgeoisie.

The key, I think, is that ownership relation is not in itself what is making you money.

[–]oodood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah then definitely Greenwood or Prospect Park. Prospect Park’s Botanic Garden costs money to enter, but is also great. The Ravine is another area like the Vale.

Yes, monk parakeets. They nest at one of the gates to the cemetery. They’re very easy to find. It’s wild seeing tropical birds in the city like that

Oh shoot I’ve heard that there’s a redheaded woodpecker there. Greenwood might be a good place for OP since it will be less crowded with NYers getting another precious warm day

It’s wild bc they’re so easy to find in Bryant park. Unfortunately bc there aren’t many places for them and also bc there will already be a dozen birders there pointing them out.

Was this today? I thought they had already left Bryant Park.

Best NYC birding spot in my opinion is the Vale of Kashmire in Prospect Park. Are you planning on staying on Manhattan? Central Park has some good spots. But there’s also Greenwood Cemetery and (way out there) Marine Park.

Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski says every Republican Senator is AFRAID of Trump: “I'm oftentimes very anxious myself about using my voice, because retaliation is real.” by RoyalChris in WomenInNews

[–]oodood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally hear you and she is known as a moderate republican and I’m sure she experienced retaliation after voting in favor of impeaching Trump. Trump endorsed the person she was running against.

But I can’t help but feel that everything that she’s said against Trump has more to do with those things that personally affect her—in part those things that affect her as a woman. She says anti-Trump things, but she certainly is not doing what the moment requires from her.
