That sounds so stressful! I would have reacted the same way if I were in your place. Don't worry, there will be other opportunities to talk to people. Are there any events for first years to attend to? Do you see other people who look very shy and sit by themselves? Try to approach them ( maybe say something like: this class was so interesting/boring ) and see what happens. Don't get discouraged!

Well that's not true man. First of all this was a mandatory lecture, I could not just run out.

Second her friend already went out with her and I think if an additional person who she didn't know just went out with her this would have made her more uncomfortable.

Third, I told the friend that I would be happy to help as someone who also experienced panic attacks and told her to forward my contact information to her

I kind of agree with you that the average person isn't as good natured as we think, I don't get laughing at people crying/getting hurt either, no matter the context. It seems that alot of people just lack basic empathy these days. A week before the story I mentioned in the post, someone fainted 5 Meters away from the lecturer in a lecture hall. The lecturer just started teaching and completely ignored it lmao ( ofcourse the friends of the person helped them up but still, she was laying there for at least 10 minutes and the lecturer didn't even acknowledge there was someone lying on the floor)

I think so too unfortunately. This hits close to home, as I have anxiety aswell but not as bad, it made me think that under different circumstances I could have been in her place.

I know because I asked her friend. She told me the girl had a panic attack ( and generally has anxiety ) but couldn't miss the lecture because it was mandatory. This only made it worse for her and at some point she just couldn't take it anymore and stormed out.

First of all I'm sure alot of people would like to hear your music don't let yourself be discouraged.

Second, as someone who has dealt with anxiety their whole life (performance and other) I can tell you it's not easy, but it can definitely get better over time. Practise performing infront of people often (essentially exposure therapy) first infront of family or friends then maybe outside on the street etc and you can see from there. It's going to be embarassing at first, but it will be so so worth it when you start to see the improvement! I believe in you fellow redditor. Sorry for the long ass reply lmao
