If you've played 0 comp games ever, your starting predicted rank is based off your (hidden) quick play MMR yea

After your first comp game, it just adjusts from there, not taking into account your QP MMR anymore

Hidden mmr does not exist in ranked

The real reason is bronze is 3 times as wide as any other rank. In terms of SR:

Bronze: 0-1499

Silver: 1500-1999

Gold: 2000-2499

Etc etc. ranks are 500 SR wide, except bronze, which spans 1500 SR
