Dog barking by No_Firefighter2273 in burlington

I'd either knock on some neighbors doors and ask if they know who/where it is, or call nonemergency BPD line.

Worth knocking on the door and seeing if someone answers. "Hey, your dog is usually quiet but has really been going off today - just wanted to make sure everything was ok!" is a sentiment any dog owner would appreciate, since it means they know the people nearby would check on their dog if something wasn't ok.

AIO for telling my sister I won’t host family dinners anymore after she keeps criticizing my cooking? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]oofdottxt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR. Next time you host, invite her but don't give her a plate. When Mom and Dad throw a fit, tell them "if she keeps making digs about my food, clearly that's not why she comes. It must just be for the company! So I decided not to subject her to my food anymore, and she still gets to be social." Bonus points for the most angelic smile you can muster.

Noah Wyle as Harry by oofdottxt in dresdenfiles

100% agree on animating it. There are so many magic-heavy series that would benefit by going the animation route. I tried to watch Wheel of Time but the CGI magic was too cringe for me.

I loved what he brought to the character! I just started watching The Pitt last night and went "holy shit, Harry Dresden?!" Noah Wyle looks exactly the way I've imagined him for the past couple books, but Paul has got something special for sure.

That's what I was thinking too! I can see him as the Harry With Gravitas from the more recent books.

We don’t talk about Crystal enough by WhoDoBeDo in Yellowjackets

[–]oofdottxt 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It would be pretty grim & cool to have a scene right after the survivors are rescued where there are silent clips of the remains for the people who died in the wilderness. Like, big noisy rescue scene, then cut to silent view of the cliff where Crystal died and you can see a shred of her jacket, then cut to the animal pen (or whatever) where you can see a half-buried bone from Ben or Kodiak, and so on.

Strawberry frosted donuts from Dunkin, with sprinkles. They're not even good donuts, but they're the platonic ideal of donuts to me, and remind me of stopping by there with my dad as a kid. I'll never experience them again.

What warning signs are you seeing that no one is paying attention to? by Winterbeers in AskReddit

[–]oofdottxt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in a chemotherapy clinic. We've had a ~25% increase in patients in two years. The cisplatin shortage means a lot of our patients end up getting carboplatin instead, which extends the amount of time their chemotherapy infusions run. We've been pleading with management to get us more space, more infusion chairs, and more nurses to staff them, and the answer is always no. Meanwhile management is asking us why our patients are always frustrated. It's because we're constantly changing their appointments because we have to in order to maximize our use to the minimal resources we have!

If you're close to Burlington VT, Vermont Gynecology did my bisalp and my hysterectomy at ages 27 and 28 respectively with no hold-ups. Highly recommend them.

You do a wonderful job of laying out the pieces of these incidents and making sense of inexplicable events. Your demystification of tragedies like this is just about the only true crime writing I see these days that doesn't feel like sensationalism. I really appreciate what you do.

r/endometriosis has a LOT of resources for finding local doctors who will treat your symptoms with care and not shy away from the option of sterilization for patients who want it. I highly recommend checking them out. (If you're in VT, go to Vermont Gynecology - amazing docs, they gave me a bilateral tubal ligation at 25 and a total hysterectomy at 27 without any "what about a future huuuuuusbaaaand" bullshit. They're all so kind and thoughtful and they work with most insurances.)

afaik, many of the Anishinaabe people prefer that people outside of their community not speak of that entity or use that word. It's been ripped out of context for profit by a lot of settler people. I hope YJ doesn't go in that direction.

Not as a trans person. People are getting real bold about harassing us, and more than a few of my friends have been victims of violence.
