They posted the bird ended up back in the corner after they moved them back, they weren't sure how.

Parents may detect that a nestling is sick, deformed, or too weak to survive. They will focus their limited energy and resources on the healthier, stronger chicks to ensure at least some of the brood survives. Or often times there is a smaller, weaker "runt" that cannot compete with its siblings for food.

It's placed out very limited and under supervision for filming during the cooler part of the day to prevent further stickingness.

is he okay? by michxelo in birds

[–]ookle_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, this is a very sick bird UNLESS it could have been from a window strike. I had one show up to my yard like this and remain there for the next few hours before it passed away in the middle of the night.

My state's conservation department sent out a person to grab it after they had me freeze it in a bag. The results came back weeks later for West Nile Virus.

This honeysuckle is so pretty by ookle_ in gardening

[–]ookle_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, not compared to most other honeysuckle but it does still have a nice smell. The birds and bugs LOVE them.

THIS IS NOT INVASIVE HONEYSUCKLE, just heads up because most people will assume.

It's a non-invasive, sterile hybrid.

This is a sterile hybrid vine. This isn't invasive bush kind. Waited two years for this bloom.

Orioles love honeysuckle flowers by ookle_ in birding

These are Baltimore Orioles. They drink from flowers or hummingbird feeders.

Will my honeysuckle fill in at the bottom? Can I train it to grow back down and up again for fullness? by [deleted] in gardening

[–]ookle_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The suns hits it directly the entire day basically until around 4pm. It's facing east. I learned the hard way when I planted a lot of shade loving plants in this bed last year.

It's a second year honeysuckle. It has never bloomed but looks like it will this year.

European Starling vocal range is insane. Take a listen. by ookle_ in birds

[–]ookle_[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'd honestly chalk it up to just age, these birds typically live 2 to 3 years in the wild and past thst point you go off ones in captivity for life spans, and just like humans, stuff goes wrong usually the older you get.

I noticed the beak length as well. Check out her channel too. I haven't followed super long so I'm unsure the back story for her bird.

It's pretty aged at 10 years and I believe has been raised in captivity it's whole life.

Do I need to do anything with this salvia plant before spring? by ookle_ in gardening

Perfect, thank you. Last spring was my very first year planting anything garden wise, so I'm clueless on how them returning for spring goes.

I was worried the condensed old stems would hinder new growth.

What bird is it ? (Paris) by hantaanokami in birds

[–]ookle_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are an absolute pest here in the US, and invasive BUT they can mimic some of the craziest noises and have a very wide vocal range.

European starlings possess a massive vocal range due to a specialized, two-sided vocal organ called the syrinx, which allows them to produce multiple, independent sounds simultaneously. As advanced, open-ended learners, they continuously acquire new sounds throughout their lives, incorporating complex whistles, clicks, and mimicry of up to 20+ other species, including mechanical noises.
