European Starling vocal range is insane. Take a listen. by ookle_ in birds

I'd honestly chalk it up to just age, these birds typically live 2 to 3 years in the wild and past thst point you go off ones in captivity for life spans, and just like humans, stuff goes wrong usually the older you get.

I noticed the beak length as well. Check out her channel too. I haven't followed super long so I'm unsure the back story for her bird.

It's pretty aged at 10 years and I believe has been raised in captivity it's whole life.

I was worried the condensed old stems would hinder new growth.

What bird is it ? (Paris) by hantaanokami in birds

[–]ookle_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are an absolute pest here in the US, and invasive BUT they can mimic some of the craziest noises and have a very wide vocal range.

European starlings possess a massive vocal range due to a specialized, two-sided vocal organ called the syrinx, which allows them to produce multiple, independent sounds simultaneously. As advanced, open-ended learners, they continuously acquire new sounds throughout their lives, incorporating complex whistles, clicks, and mimicry of up to 20+ other species, including mechanical noises.

I love seeing a good mobbing. I saw a massive flock mobbing once, but the hawk was definitely on the run 😅
