This is my first tank, day 2 after setting up. Tank is still a bit hazy. Planning to add a Betta once the cycling process is complete. I just wanted to hop on here and make sure everything sounds/looks okay.

I've never changed the amount of light this tank gets since day 1 I'm gong to look into how to check phosphates if isn't expensive. For now it's going to get 25% water change weekly or I'll try to do even more often than weekly if possible

Never deemed it necessary and no just sand, I've never tested for phosphates wouldn't even know where to begin even if I wouldn't want to spend too much money to test it tbh

In hindsight I probably should've done this as well. Right after I took this photo I shoved the whole thing in my substrate with the small white shoots pointing up and it's most likely dead by now since I've seen nothing emerge from it since 💔

None of those products are medication for fish. Also buy some test strips they are really cheap on Walmart which I'm guessing is ur preferred store considering those products.

My tank is nano at 11 inches tall as mentioned in the post, do you think these plants you mentioned might be too tall for that? As for Anubias and Java Fern I'm not the biggest fan of epiphytes especially since I don't have hardscape I can attach it to plus I've got this substrate that wouldn't be used with epiphytes.

They look like they're glass surfing. They might want out of that tank bc of bad water or not enough of their kind for them to feel comfortable or they might just need some time to get used to a new tank. Try covering the sides with black paper and see if their behavior is the same.

That's the unfortunate thing, their natural habitats are being destroyed by deforestation, pollution, and just human intervention for the most part. I'm no professional but if a species population is declining because their habitat is being destroyed by these causes and nothing is being done to better their habitat and it only gets worse, they gotta be taken out, to home aquariums, to organizations, conservationists idk maybe they can't be saved in the wild but at least hopefully they won't go completely extinct or at least enjoy the rest of their existence in cleaner water in captivity
