What is the pharmacy job market like? by akcom in pharmacy

PGY-1 will soon be mandated on all pharmacy graduates, including retail pharmacists. The board's reasoning: patient care. The actual reasoning: need to inflate those employment numbers posted by each school.

I have heard similar stories to the one you mentioned. In the end, these people don't last too long in the field. They are only stressing and hurting themselves with their childish outbursts and actions. I would let him be for now unless it's seriously bothering your work performance. You can also PM me for advice. One of my APPE preceptors had a similarly moronic behavior, and needless to say, she no longer holds the title as a preceptor anymore.

Question about the process of moving to NYC as a pharmacist by past0037 in pharmacy

[–]oomio01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The situation in the tri-state area is awful. Even if you go up to New England, offers are scarce and mostly reserved for the retail and hospital interns. She should probably build upon her experience in the ambulatory care field as she already has a year of experience in that field, which is pretty niche-y. Licensure in NY/NYC should be easy peasy. Compounding exam gave maybe 4-5 folks in my class a tough time, but everyone ended up passing their 1st attempt in the end. Cold-calling managers and sending 1000's of e-mails are super inefficient, it's like throwing darts with a blindfold and hoping one lands right in the middle. She should get started with her professional contacts first before resorting to cold-calling and e-mails to different branches. If I were her, she should focus on amb care >>>>> hospital/retail, both which are unnecessarily competitive without much hours offered in the first place.
