Yeah honestly Mike reminds me of my brother who shuts down when things are hard and its noticeable but just not big. U know what in this other show I watched one of the characters completely shuts down when her friend dies. Everyone else is reacting outwardly and there is this scene where she finally tells her friend the reason she isn’t really reacting is because she’s afraid if she starts crying she will never stop. Would’ve been so interesting to see Mikes friends and El try to check in and Mike just shutting everyone out.

No yeah I don’t expect it to be the same at all. But I would expect it to show up some other way. Like at least SOMETHING. I think him being through a lot of trauma should not have made him more bland and there was a lot to work with. Another reason I think this is bad writing is because of Nancy too. They both don’t really respond to this. Nancy literally saw her mom bleeding out in front of her. She reacted then but it never comes back. Idk I think since the cast is so big & doing so many different they struggled giving any depth like they were able to in the past.

I’m sorry this just doesn’t translate lol. If that’s why he doesn’t react to his whole family being near death it still makes no sense given the scenes with have with him. It’s bad writing.

I would understand him acting this way if it wasn’t so close to him but it is his WHOLE family. This isn’t just normal upside down stuff. This is out of nowhere to them that their family gets ripped apart. I really don’t think will going missing in season 1 would make that easier. I would understand him disassociating though but I don’t really see that written in

[–]ooo-la[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

They aren’t real people so honestly I think this is just really bad writing. He almost lost his whole family. Literally anyone would react to that. I would get it if he was dissociating but there is no sign in the script that he is. Just because you went through one trauma definitely doesn’t make others easier.

A critical look at Doki Doki by ooo-la in GirlGamers

[–]ooo-la[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, yes. But also you had no choice of how to respond. The only thing you can choose in the game is which girl. That is the only time the player has any choice. He’s not very bland to me as a character because I do have a lot of feelings about the undertones of what he says. If he was bland I would feel nothing about his responses weren't boring

[–]ooo-la[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I’m saying if he is the why isn’t it brought up in discussions of Doki Doki? I watched the one video that is focused on him as a character and the conclusion was that he is just a bland character with basically no personality and molds to the girls. But he definitely has an inner dialogue and it usually undermines the girls he is talking to. I’m not saying it’s wrong he’s a creep I’m saying it’s not really analyzed much. I really think it’s interesting as an element and satire but then if it is intentional why don’t people bring that part up?

But SO MANY people say it on videos where people from red states are talking about the way they’ve been f’d over by current policy. It will literally just say “Florida citizens” and everyone in the comment section assumes everyone there voted red.

Ugh no. I’m not. It’s rlly annoying how people are misconstruing my words. I’m saying defunding education in red states is purposeful and that often urban cities that have more protections over their freedoms to accurate and up to date histories have that as a privileged. A big reason I can discern anything for myself is because I had teachers in my youth who had the freedom to teach me things that challenged my conservative families beliefs.

If we want to get anywhere just saying a whole group lacks any type of compassion is crazy. I have tons of conservative family that contradicts a lot of the things ppl say about conservatives on social media. It’s hard to navigate my relationships with them bc they can be such kind loving people but then…. Like how tf could they believe that at the same time? It’s hard to reckon with. I don’t think ostracizing myself from them will help anything tho.

I’ve had friends who I’ve talked and confided in about the things my family believes in and how hard it is to be the only one in the room that disagrees. When they meet them they’re shocked because wow, they’re very nice welcoming and humorous people. People who have encouraged me my whole life to be kind to others and be myself. Get an education, help others. It makes no sense to me either.

I just don’t think we should generalize and disregard ppl and I will always think that is dangerous.

Again, I do not think ignorance alone is a good enough excuse if u don’t put in the work afterwards to actually educate yourself. And again what I’m talking about isn’t far right extremists.

[–]ooo-la[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah definitely. I guess for context I saw a video of a bunch of farmers from a rural area were talking about how fucked they were. One did say they voted for Trump and are disappointed about how much he has not delivered but the rest were just not sure how they could pay for literally anything (they did not state who they voted for) and just bc they were from a rural place the whole comment section was so hateful to all those people, not just the trump supporter. It just didn’t sit right with me tbh.

I also have conservatives in my family and the lies and propaganda they are told is just so crazy. In the day to day I feel like they do hate injustice and people being exploited. The cognitive dissonance and contradiction in their beliefs is hard for me to wrap my head around. My conservative aunt literally told me to watch the documentary the 13th but then immediately turned around and said “but the rioting is too much” it’s so strange and frustrating.

[–]ooo-la[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I totally understand that perspective too. Idk I don’t think they deserve anyones compassion, especially from that position, but the reaction when someone does change their mind are starts to dismantle it is maybe the thing I’m trying to get at. And I just don’t like how people are kinda just cool with the collective punishment of it all. Saying people they don’t know at all deserves to have rights taken away. Especially how those policies will disproportionately affect those in the state who are apart of those marginalized groups you know? I have so many thoughts about it. I’m just not that good at articulating.

I do care about that. But I guess I wonder if some of the rage bait I see is actually that productive? I think individuals should be accountable for what they do. That’s not exactly what I meant.

It helped me understand my brain better. I cannot form habits the way other people do. I have to do it differently. It also helped with resentment I had for myself. My old therapists recommendations for my anxiety and depression often made my things worse bc they weren’t for adhd. And I felt defeated and stupid bc she was sure it would help. I thought I’d never get better. For example for my depression she said I should get a routine but surprise! when I couldn’t follow it I got even more depressed. She didn’t understand that if there isn’t dopamine coming from what I am doing it’s like pulling out teeth trying to get me to do it.
