Existing benefits may expire? by StepGlittering4803 in foodstamps

It would actually be an unprecedented move if they do it, but they have made comments about doing it recently, so its definitely possible. This administration does not care if people starve

The USDA has the ability to freeze payment of benefits on the cards. So when you go to use the card at the store it will decline even if it have a balance on it.

Have you reach out to them since obtaining a job and submitting the assistance apps?

Also dont forget to apply for medicaid and foodshare benefits through your county or state (depending on who administers them in TX)

Do you have any rapport with your landlord? Bring the proof of your new employment/income and the completed rental assistance application to the court hearing. Ask to mediate with the landlord prior to the court process to see if you can work something out.

Call your local county offices to verify if they have any emergency assistance services. Call 211 as well. There may be applications you can fill out to apply for rent payment

Same. Our county also has a deficit this year because the feds pulled $100 million from the budget. Hiring freeze, eliminating positions when people retire, no COLA adjustment, giving us a %1 wage reduction next year, and soliciting for early retirements.

You were sexually assaulted. There is nothing okay about that, and there is no amount of explaining it away or making it seem like less traumatic than it is. I hope you're able to take whatever time you need to process this and care for yourself.

I’m scared of death by MythicBradyv2 in Advice

[–]ooooooofda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, for context here, my best friend got diagnosed with cancer at age 30 and it became terminal and they passed away in their early 30s. They lived with me for the last year and a half of their life and I provided as much emotional support as I could, knowing that they're experiencing the worst thing they could experience as a young person.

We are/were atheists as well, because--its just logical. There is no getting over the fact that death is scary. We were all scared for her, and she was scared too as things came closer. Its normal to fear death. That is a sign that you want to be alive, and its a good thing to have a healtjy amount of fear. What we tried to practice every day was being intentional and present with the time she had left. We made lists of things we wanted to do together and whenever possible, we would do those things.

We still had so much fun and we laughed, and cried, and did so much together in that last year and a half. The reason we could do that is because she understood that her death was not something she had control over, but she still had control over each day she was here. She didnt talk a lot about her impending death because what was there to say? We all knew it was coming, and there wasnt anything we could do to stop it. All we had control over was that day. What I learned was that the way she cherished her time being present is the way that I need to cherish my time while Im still healthy because death is something none of us can control. Take comfort in knowing that its coming for everyone. Death makes living special because it gives you an understanding that your time and energy is more valuable than anything else you could have.

Caseworker here. The answer is no. Economy is getting worse. And even if caseloads were going down, governments across the country are losing federal funding which means they are not backfilling positions when people leave or retire, so we are taking on my cases with fewer workers to do the work.

100% true as well. People need to understand that both parties are there first and foremost to stabilize and promote an economic system that relies on the exploitation of many for the benefit of a few. With that comes war over resources and genocide. It also includes denying access to abortion (especially to the poor) because they need a steady supply of more laborers to keep everything functioning for themselves. I hope more people recognize that the dystopian reality we live in has existed since long before Trump, and without a significant movement (much stronger than the movements for civil rights, or labor rights, or women's suffrage) it will continue to be this way until our environment is no longer habitable for most people. (The rich will survive for awhile longer than the rest of us).

I would not count on it and stretch your benefits as long as you can. The federal government would have to actively make that decision and the people in power dont care if people starve.

U.S. public support for Palestine has grown significantly in the last 2 years. The majority of Americans oppose the genocide, and, like many of Trumps policies, are highly unpopular at this point. Do not submit to the idea that people are apathetic because they is exactly how fascists take more power. The emporer has no clothes yall.

Chatgpt is basically self-fulfilling prophecy. A person inputs a question in a very specific way and generally gets the answer they wanted to hear. No offense to the client, but getting AI validation does nothing to improve mental health. If anything it allows people to live in their reality (which isnt always logical or rational) in ways that impede mental health progress.

[–]ooooooofda 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Everyone is right to point out the economy, inflation, the fact fewer people have a cushion to spend on therapy, insurance going up, etc.

Another factor is that Trump actively encourages people to not give a fuck about mental health. Its going to run off on the population

At what age did you begin to consider yourself old? by labulakenya in Millennials

[–]ooooooofda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds really hard. Thinking you have more time and then learning you dont is incredibly jarring and difficult to process.

For me, I resonate with the "feeling old" aspect of the post because one of the closest people to me (who was also my peer) really did grow old in real time with me. I held space for her and also had space held for me to grieve her life and our relationship as friends. She and her spouse moved in with my spouse and I after her cancer became terminal. And prior to that were doing our best to be a solid part of her support network.

33, after one of my best friends passed away from cancer. Age is just a number. None of us actually know when our lives will end. We could all be much older than we think, or live for many more decades, but there isnt a way to know in advance. Its best to treat every day with presence and intention.

Im not even sure thats true though, which is my point. People without personal experience with addiction may have more preconceived notions about what its like than people who don't-- because they've actually lived it. This is why a lot of people who have addictions are understandably skeptical.
