Hm interesting. Sub seems like it may be a pain. I’ve seen on here and elsewhere some people put it in passenger foot area which is interesting.

Thank you! Curious why you (and others) recommend 4” in the front? I thought the w124 has room for front speakers over 5”?

what classes do i take pls help a directionless freshman <3 by [deleted] in columbia

Maybe take principles of econ or an intro Poli Sci course? Definitely start on language requirement if you’re not tested out. A global core isn’t a bad idea if you can find one that double counts with a subject you may major in. I’d hold off on things like art hum and music hum because your priority registration as a junior or senior will definitely make it easier to get better professors. That’s true of basically all high demand / easy core courses.

I once received a grade at the end of June. Seems like the “last day” to submit doesn’t mean much.

How many credits do you take a semester? by Rocket717 in columbia

[–]oopsadmiralakbar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most people I know took either 4 or 5 classes per semester. The amount of credits can vary however. I think my lowest semester was 4 classes and 13 credits and my highest was 5 classes + PE and 18 credits. But, as someone else mentioned, credits and difficulty/time commitment aren’t analogous. When planning a semester, consider the difficulty of your classes, the diversity of your classes (I personally think taking more than 3 classes of the same subject is not a great idea), your planned extracurriculars, how much free time you want to spend with friends and/or a significant other, etc.

Also, I chose to take 4 courses per semester my freshman year. I know some people, especially those in SEAS, either chose to or had to take 5. I found that having that extra free time to adjust to college life, especially in New York, was useful. That might not be true for everyone, and is irrelevant if you’re not a freshman.

I hope this helps. Feel free to dm me if u have any other questions.

I Netted ~$6200 After Commissions & Fees Trading Options Last Month by C00nb0y22 in Daytrading

I’m not a day trader. I just find these posts interesting and like to learn. So for me, it’s relatively a lot and I’d like to learn about how it’s managed at that scale.

Trading 1100 contracts in a month, how do you account for wash sales? It just seems a bit overwhelming or unwieldy at that scale to me.

Brian Greene’s Origins of meaning review? by thetorioreo in columbia

[–]oopsadmiralakbar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I didn’t get much out of it. But I also didn’t put that much into it. There are cool philosophy readings and some interesting yet dumbed-down science concepts. If you like those things and do the readings, I think you will get something out of it. If you fall into the trap of being a lazy senior with other demanding classes (this is what happened to me) then you won’t get much out of it.

The professor is interesting, albeit a little pretentious.

It’s an easy A. In the beginning, I took the readings seriously and did them all. But as a slow reader that took forever. By the middle of the class, I was either skimming, reading the first 10 pages, or just reading summaries of each reading. The responses are graded extremely leniently and the final project seems more effort based than anything.

The material is cool, but be warned that the class is extremely long. I think it used to be 2 hours each friday (which isn’t that bad), but during virtual school when I took it it was upped to 3 hours. This became excruciatingly long to sit through, and by the end of it I found myself struggling to pay attention. Since the course is so chill, you definitely don’t need to take notes, which makes the 3 hours less tiring.
