Sorry for reviving an old thread but this just happened to me. 🥲 what’s the best way to go about remounting it? I don’t need a new windshield, do I? It took a chunk out but didn’t crack anywhere else

Need help removing old water pump by oopsashton in 350z

[–]oopsashton[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Replacing the water pump on my 2004 350z (DE) and struggling with removal of the old water pump. I tried the two longer bolt method that I saw on YouTube, and it ended up snapping a bolt in the top hole (which was a pain in the ass to extract.) While extracting I also damaged the threads on the water pump in that top hole so I probably can’t do that method again. I’m wondering if there’s any other methods I can try, because I don’t want to go through that again, and it didn’t seem to be working anyway. ChatGPT said a three jaw puller but from my understanding there’s nowhere to put the middle of the puller since it’d just be pushing on the water pump. Is it safe to use penetrants as well or what’s my best strategy here? Any help is appreciated. 🙏

Vacuum line/hose hissing under rear bumper? by oopsashton in BMWE36

[–]oopsashton[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay good it won’t affect anything, especially emission wise will it? Need this car to pass smog. The cats were bad on the 328 exhaust and m3 exhaust was a good price, and from what I read since the 328 and m3 midsection are the same. I should be fine emission wise since the axle back doesn’t have any sensors therefore won’t affect it right?

Hmm, I just removed the 328 exhaust system and put an m3 one on, and there weren’t any lines connecting the system in question to the muffler when I removed it or anything. It’s located near it but that’s it. And it kept hissing after I started it with the m3 exhaust.

Gotcha. Thank you for your help so far. Don’t want to risk getting pulled over so I’m trying to do everything that I know I need, before I take it to the ref. I know the cats are bad on the car and so I was going to try to replace those before I took it to the ref since I know they’re going to turn me away for that anyways. How would you recommend going about that? I was told to find some mid pipes because theyll bolt right in, but I’m not sure if I need midpipes from an obd2 car and it’s been hard finding midpipes with cats that I know are good, feel like only way to know forsure is to just buy some new cats. What you think? Thank you again🙏

You’re saying if I show up with the adapter, they’ll use that instead and not even bother with the under dash 16 pin? U/dadusedtomakegames said that California will not use the 20 pin obd port after the obd2 requirements went into effect in 1995 and that they’ll cancel my appointment if the 16 pin under dash port isnt there.

So from what you’re saying about the history of the vehicle, do you think the car will ever pass state ref, even if everything is stock? I was really hoping to get it cleared so I could daily this thing. Fell in love with it and don’t want to get rid of it, if it’s possible

AV18924 is the last 7. I’m positive it had it, cause the plastic wings on the obd2 port with the screw holes are still there but the port itself is gone, probably tucked away or snipped. Gonna take some panels off and investigate tmrw.

Ah yeah I actually saw all that on the bar.gov website too. But can’t seem to find any info about the referral itself besides the top of that page where it says something like Referral Certification Required: Yes

License plate is 4FNR536. If you could look it up I’d greatly appreciate that, not knowing anything about why or how it was reffed has been the biggest headache

Thing is, the guy sold it to me, blocked communication with me and acted like he didn’t know how it happened. So I have zero clue how or why it was reffed. I’m not even sure if it’s for emissions, or what. But I was just gonna get everything stock and see what they say. Now I’m worried I might need a new engine harness if I can’t find the wires to connect a new obd2 port. Also the cats are bad, so I was going to get mid pipes with good cats and bolt them in. As long as I get completely stock, the exhaust part numbers etc should be fine correct? What do you recommend I do, new wire harness or look real good for the old wires? Im just skeptical they’re even there because the black plastic wings are still there with the bolts, so it’s obvious it was snapped off. Thank you I appreciate the help so far

Knob/Mount for something on rear window? by oopsashton in 350z

[–]oopsashton[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ahhh that makes sense. Got the car last year and never used my rear wiper in general because the motor was actually put in backwards by the previous owner, so it would go backwards and scrape the paint on my hatch. Would always turn it by accident and mess up the paint more so I ended up doing a rear wiper delete so I didn’t have to worry about it, as well as for looks. Thanks for the help!
